Free vs paid AI interview assistant: what you get free, and when paying is worth it

The free plan gives you every mode, including the live assistant, the AI mock interview and the résumé builder, for 15 minutes a day in sessions of up to 15 minutes, with no signup or credit card. Paying buys longer sessions, more minutes per day and premium AI models. Most people practicing should stay free; people with real interviews on the calendar usually need a paid plan or an hour pack.

The free AI interview assistant plan is the full product on a timer: all modes, including live Candidate Mode, the AI mock interview and the Résumé Builder, with fast free AI models, for 15 minutes a day in sessions of up to 15 minutes, at $0 forever with no credit card and no signup. Paid plans remove the timer and add premium models. Standard ($14.99/mo) gives 60-minute sessions and up to 100 minutes a day; Pro ($29.99/mo) gives 70-minute sessions, unlimited sessions and ChatGPT and Gemini; Pro+ ($49.99/mo) adds Claude. Hour packs from $5.99 cover a single interview without a subscription. The rest of this page is the plan table, the decision rules, and the refund terms, as of October 2026.

What the free plan actually includes

It is worth being precise, because "free plan" often means a demo. Here it means the same application with a daily limit. On the free plan you can run the live desktop AI interview assistant beside Zoom, Teams or Meet, with live captions and a structured answer in about 2 seconds, the full hotkey set, Coding mode, Read screen, and every language. You can run the AI mock interview: paste the job description and your résumé, answer the AI interviewer's spoken questions out loud, get each answer scored out of 10 with a model answer, and receive the report card. You can use the Résumé Builder and get the 📊 Summary interview report after a session. The AI models are the fast free ones, with Mercury 2.5 by Inception as the default and GPT-OSS and Qwen also available.

The limits are the clock and the models. Fifteen minutes a day, in sessions no longer than 15 minutes, and no ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude. That is enough for one mock round a day, which is how most people use it, and enough for a short recruiter screen. It is not enough for a 45-minute technical interview.

Two things the table does not show. Dual AI, on Standard and up, puts two models' answers to the same question side by side, which is useful when you want a second opinion on a hard question. And the model switch is live: on Pro and Pro+ you can change models mid-session, for instance moving to a faster model for rapid-fire questions.

Decision rules

Instead of weighing features, start from your calendar.

  1. You are practicing, with no interview scheduled yet. Stay free. One mock round a day, scored, with a report card, costs nothing and is the single most useful habit in the product. Pay only when a real interview appears.
  2. You have one interview coming up. Free covers a 15-minute phone screen. For anything longer, a 1-hour pack at $5.99 covers a single 45- to 60-minute interview with no subscription to cancel afterward. If you expect two or three interviews over a few months, the 5-hour pack at $19.99 is cheaper per hour and never expires.
  3. You are interviewing weekly. Standard at $14.99/mo. Sessions up to 60 minutes and up to 100 minutes a day with no waiting between sessions covers one or two interviews a day plus practice, and Dual AI is there for the hard questions.
  4. You have onsite loops or back-to-back rounds. Pro at $29.99/mo. A loop of four 60-minute rounds is 240 minutes, well past Standard's 100 a day; Pro's unlimited sessions and 70-minute cap handle it, and the premium ChatGPT and Gemini models are there for system design and senior-level questions.
  5. You want a specific model. If Claude is the model you trust for your field, Pro+ at $49.99/mo is the only plan that includes it. Otherwise Pro covers most people.
  6. You are interviewing for months. Annual plans are Standard $99.99/yr, Pro $199.99/yr, Pro+ $249.99/yr. Each costs less than seven months at the monthly price (about five months' worth on Pro+), so if you expect a search of seven months or more, annual is cheaper.
Tip: Do the minutes math before picking a tier. Add up your longest expected interview day in minutes. Under 15: free. Under 100 with no session over 60 minutes: Standard. Anything more: Pro. Hour packs fill gaps on any plan and never expire.

The money-back terms, plainly

A new subscription has a 14-day money-back period on its first payment, provided you have used under 30 minutes of live session time. The 30-minute condition is the one to notice. It is designed so you can install, set up, run a mock interview and a short test of the live mode, and still refund if it is not for you. It is not designed to cover a full interview and then a refund. If you want to test the live mode thoroughly before paying, do it on the free plan first, where 15 minutes a day costs nothing and does not touch the refund window. Full terms are on the refund policy page and prices on the pricing page.

Where paying does not help

The honest limitation: paying buys time and models, not better interviews. If your mock scores are low on the free plan, Standard will not raise them; more practice will, and practice is free. The paid tiers matter when the constraint is the clock, meaning you have real interviews longer than 15 minutes, or when the constraint is the model, meaning you have senior or specialized questions where you want ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude on the real-time interview copilot. If neither constraint applies to you yet, the money is better spent later.

There is also a case where no plan is the right answer: interviews where assistive tools are not permitted, such as most in-person, admissions and government interviews. There, the free mock interview is the whole product for you, and it is free.

Comparing free tiers across tools

If you are deciding between products, check what each free tier actually withholds. Common patterns are a short trial that expires, a free tier with no live mode, or a free tier that requires a card. CoPilot Interview's free plan has none of those: it is time-limited per day, includes every mode, and asks for no card or account. You can compare AI interview assistants on exactly these terms, and the page on free trial traps lists what to look for. For the budget route, see using an AI interview assistant without a subscription.

Follow the rules of the employer or assessment you're in — many people use it only to practice, which works on the free plan.

FAQ

Is the free plan a trial that expires?

No. It is $0 forever with no credit card and no signup, and it includes all modes. The limit is 15 minutes a day in sessions of up to 15 minutes, with the fast free AI models.

What is the cheapest way to cover one interview?

A 1-hour pack at $5.99. It never expires and needs no subscription, so there is nothing to cancel afterward. For a 15-minute phone screen, the free plan already covers it.

What does Standard add over free?

Sessions up to 60 minutes, up to 100 minutes a day with no waiting between sessions, Dual AI (two models side by side) and Focus Mode. It uses the same fast free models as the free plan. It costs $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year.

When is Pro worth it over Standard?

When one interview day runs past 100 minutes, as onsite loops do, or when you want ChatGPT and Gemini rather than the free models. Pro is $29.99 a month with 70-minute sessions and unlimited sessions. Pro+ at $49.99 a month adds Claude.

How does the 14-day money-back guarantee work?

It applies to the first payment of a new subscription, within 14 days, if you have used under 30 minutes of live session time. Test the live mode on the free plan first so the refund window stays intact.

Do hour packs expire?

No. The 1-hour ($5.99), 5-hour ($19.99) and 15-hour ($34.99) packs never expire and work without a subscription. They are the right choice for occasional interviews spread over months.
