Most PwC candidates go through an online application, one or more online assessments, sometimes a recorded video interview, and a final interview with a manager, director or partner before an offer. Steps vary by role, location, country and team, and experienced hires often move straight to interviews.
PwC is one of the Big 4 networks and hires into assurance (audit), tax and advisory. The final interview is where many candidates feel the pressure, because it tests motivation and judgment more than technical recall. Our Big 4 and IT services interview guide compares PwC with similar firms.
How the PwC interview process runs
The usual sequence, as candidates and job postings describe it:
- Application through the PwC careers site, with your resume and sometimes short questions.
- Online assessments, described as reasoning, numerical or behavioral tests, sometimes game-like.
- Recorded video interview in some countries, answering set questions on camera.
- First interview or assessment day, which may include a written task, group exercise or case.
- Final interview with a senior manager, director or partner.
- Offer and background checks.
If you get a recorded interview, our guide to one-way video interviews explains the format.
Assurance, tax and advisory: what the work involves
Assurance associates help audit financial statements: sampling transactions, checking documents and testing controls. Tax associates prepare returns and research rules. Advisory covers consulting, deals and risk work, with more client-facing problem solving.
Interviewers want proof that you understand the daily work, not just the brand. "I enjoy checking details and asking why" lands better for audit than "I want a famous firm on my resume." In the Philippines, PwC's member firm is Isla Lipana & Co.
What PwC is looking for at each step
| Step | What it assesses | Prep that helps |
|---|---|---|
| Online assessments | Reasoning speed, numeracy, work preferences | Timed practice; answer preference questions honestly and consistently |
| Video interview | Clear, structured answers with no live listener | Record yourself; keep answers near 90 seconds |
| First interview or assessment day | Teamwork, written clarity, technical basics | Summarize a short case in writing in 20 minutes |
| Final interview | Motivation, judgment, response to challenge | Why PwC, why this service line, and a story about a setback |
PwC interview questions and sample answers
Commonly reported questions include "Why PwC and why this service line?", "Tell me about a time you challenged an idea", "How do you handle feedback?" and, for tax, "Why tax?" Technical basics are in our accountant interview questions.
"Why tax?" "I like rules that change and need interpreting. In my internship at a small accounting office I prepared income tax computations for salaried clients and noticed how often people missed deductions they were entitled to. Explaining that to them was the best part of my week. A PwC tax team would give me harder cases and proper training."
"Tell me about a time you challenged an idea." "In a group assignment, our leader wanted to survey a bakery's customers only online. I pointed out that many of its older customers rarely went online, so the results would be skewed. I suggested short paper surveys at the counter for one week. He agreed, and those extra answers changed our findings on opening hours."
"How do you handle feedback?" "I write it down and act on it quickly. My internship supervisor said my working papers were accurate but hard to follow. I asked to see a strong example, copied its structure and added a one-line purpose at the top of each sheet. Two weeks later she used one of my files to train the next intern."
Seven days to prepare for PwC
Days 1 and 2: Research the service line on the PwC careers site and write a three-sentence answer to "Why PwC, why this team?"
Days 3 and 4: Do short timed reasoning sets, then record three video answers and watch them back for pace and filler words.
Days 5 and 6: Practice four stories out loud: a challenge, feedback, teamwork and a setback. Revise technical basics for your area.
Day 7: Confirm your availability, prepare documents and write two questions for the final interviewer.

Frequently asked questions
How many interviews does PwC have?
Candidates commonly describe one or two live interviews after the online assessments: a first interview or assessment day, then a final interview with a senior person. Some roles and countries add a recorded video interview. Experienced hires may have two or three conversations with the team instead.
What is the PwC final interview like?
It is usually a conversation with a senior manager, director or partner about why you want PwC, what you know about the service line and how you handle challenges. Expect follow-up questions on your examples, and prepare two questions of your own about the team and training.
How do I prepare for PwC online assessments?
Practice timed numerical and reasoning questions, and read each question fully before answering. For behavioral or preference questions, answer honestly and consistently rather than guessing what the firm wants. Formats change by country and year, so read the instructions sent with your invitation.
Does PwC hire freshers in India and the Philippines?
PwC member firms in both countries hire graduates and early-career staff, and some roles support teams in other countries. Check the PwC careers site for your country, since roles, requirements and timelines differ between member firms. Apply only through official channels.
