How to Prepare for an EY Interview: Process and Sample Answers (2026)

Preparing for an EY interview means getting ready for three things: an online assessment, a technical or case conversation about the service line you chose, and a final interview with a senior manager or partner about motivation and fit. Candidates and job postings commonly describe that order, but steps vary by role, location, country and team.

Preparing for an EY interview means getting ready for three things: an online assessment, a technical or case conversation about the service line you chose, and a final interview with a senior manager or partner about motivation and fit. Candidates and job postings commonly describe that order, but steps vary by role, location, country and team.

EY is one of the Big 4 networks, hiring into assurance, tax, consulting and strategy roles, and many graduates join its delivery centers in India and other countries. Below are the stages, sample answers and a week-long plan. For the wider picture, read our Big 4 and IT services interview guide.

The EY interview process in order

  1. Apply on the EY careers site for one role and location.
  2. Online assessment with reasoning, numbers or situational questions, depending on the role.
  3. Screening call or video interview with a recruiter.
  4. Technical or case interview with a manager from the team.
  5. Final interview with a senior manager or partner.
  6. Offer, documents and background checks.

Some candidates have the technical and final interviews on the same day; experienced hires usually skip the assessment.

Which EY role are you interviewing for?

EY's work splits into a few areas. Assurance covers audit and related reviews. Tax covers compliance and advice. Consulting covers technology, risk and business change projects. Strategy roles focus on deals and major business decisions.

The technical questions follow the area. An assurance interviewer may ask for a journal entry; a consulting interviewer may ask how you would investigate falling sales. In the Philippines, EY's member firm is SGV & Co., which many Filipino graduates know by that name.

Questions EY candidates report, with sample answers

Expect "Tell me about yourself", "Why EY?", "Describe a time you worked in a diverse team", and technical prompts such as "Pass a journal entry for a credit sale" for assurance. Our accountant interview questions cover more basics.

"Tell me about yourself." "I am a commerce graduate from Chennai and I have cleared my CA Intermediate exams. During articleship I worked on statutory audits of two manufacturing companies, mostly testing inventory and purchases. I liked finding the story behind odd numbers. I am applying to EY assurance for larger, more complex audits and the chance to work with teams in other countries."

"Pass a journal entry for a credit sale." "When goods are sold on credit, I debit the customer's account, which is a receivable, and credit sales revenue. If GST applies, I credit the output tax payable for that portion. When the customer pays later, I debit bank and credit the receivable, so the balance clears."

"Describe a time you worked in a diverse team." "For an inter-college case competition, our team had engineering, law and commerce students, and two of us were more comfortable in Hindi than English. We brainstormed in either language but wrote the final deck in English, with one person checking it. The law student spotted a regulatory angle other teams missed, and we reached the final round."

A week of EY interview preparation

  1. Day 1: Read your role on the EY careers site and list what the team does for clients.
  2. Day 2: Write and record a 60-second introduction; fix one thing and record again.
  3. Day 3: Timed reasoning practice, then review mistakes.
  4. Day 4: Revise service line basics and explain three of them out loud as if to a friend.
  5. Day 5: Practice the diverse team, pressure and mistake stories.
  6. Day 6: A full mock interview with technical and behavioral questions mixed.
  7. Day 7: Documents, camera check, and two questions for the partner.

How CoPilot Interview helps you rehearse

Our AI interview assistant is most useful before the day. In an AI mock interview you paste the EY posting and your resume; an AI interviewer asks questions aloud and scores each spoken answer out of 10, with what worked, what to improve and a model answer. That makes it a good way to practice technical explanations in clear English. Both mock interviews and 15 minutes a day of live help sit on the free plan, which needs no card.

Live help is only for interviews where it is allowed, so follow your employer's rules, and do not use it during assessments or in-person rounds. Disclosure: CoPilot Interview is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the EY interview process take?

It depends on the country, role and time of year. Campus hiring can follow a set calendar, while experienced roles depend on the team's schedule. Ask the recruiter at the screening call what the next steps are and roughly when you will hear back.

What does EY ask in the technical round?

It depends on the service line. Assurance candidates report questions on journal entries, financial statements and the audit cycle; tax candidates on basic tax rules; consulting candidates on a simple business case. Revise the basics of your area and practice explaining them in plain English.

Do I need a CA or CPA to join EY?

Not for every role. Many graduate roles accept commerce, finance, business or technology degrees, while some assurance and tax roles ask for professional qualifications or progress toward them. Read the requirements on each posting, since they differ by role and country.

What should I ask at the end of an EY interview?

Ask about the work rather than perks. Good options are what a typical first month looks like, how new joiners are trained and reviewed, and which industries the team serves. One sincere question about the interviewer's own path at EY also works well.
