How to Spot Fake or Clone AI Interview Assistant Apps in App Stores

Several listings called "AI Interview Assistant" in app stores are generic chatbots with a new icon, or copies of a real product uploaded by someone else. You can usually tell within two minutes with eight checks: the publisher name, whether the website matches, whether the screenshots show the real product, review patterns, permissions, pricing, a support contact, and where the official download lives.

This page runs through each check and lists CoPilot Interview's official channels so you can compare, without naming any specific clone.

Why clones exist

"AI interview assistant" is a popular search, a store listing is cheap, and a generic chat wrapper can be renamed in an afternoon. So three kinds of listing appear beside real products: wrappers around a public chat model with an interview-themed name; copies of a real app's name, icon and screenshots pointing at someone else's binary; and modified installers passed around as "unlocked" versions. The harm runs from a wasted subscription to a stolen card number or an installer carrying something extra.

Modified installers are the most dangerous case and have their own page: interview copilot mod APK risks.

The eight checks

CheckWhat to look forRed flag
1. Publisher nameA named company that also appears on the product's websiteAn individual's name, a different company, or no name at all
2. Website matchThe listing links to the same domain the product advertises everywhere elseA free-hosted page, a lookalike domain, or no website
3. ScreenshotsThe actual app window, with features the website describesStock chat bubbles, screenshots copied from another product
4. Review patternsMixed ratings with specific complaints and repliesA burst of five-star reviews in one week with the same phrasing
5. PermissionsOnly what the feature needs: microphone, and screen recording on macOSContacts, SMS, location, or accessibility access with no stated reason
6. PricingPrices that match the websiteA single lifetime deal, a countdown timer, or prices nowhere else
7. Support contactAn email or form on the same domainNo contact, or a free webmail address
8. Official download locationThe website names the listing as a place to get the appA store listing the website never mentions

Publisher, website and download location together

Checks 1, 2 and 8 are one check done three ways: does the listing, the company and the website all point at each other? CoPilot Interview is made by NeuraSense AI LLC; the website is copilotinterview.com; the Windows app is on the Microsoft Store at apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N53F7K9T8DT and as a direct download from the site. If a listing uses our name but a different publisher, or links to a different domain, it is not ours, however good the screenshots look.

The same logic applies to any product: open the vendor's website first and install only from a place it names. Is CoPilot Interview legit? applies these checks to us.

Permissions, pricing and support

A live interview assistant needs to hear the call, so it asks for the microphone and, on macOS, screen recording; CoPilot Interview asks for exactly those two on macOS 12 and later. A wrapper that requests contacts, SMS or location is asking for things an interview assistant has no use for. Antivirus and SmartScreen warnings are a separate matter, covered in does antivirus flag AI interview assistants; our direct Windows download shows the standard SmartScreen "more info" step on first run because it is a newer installer, while the Store version does not.

Pricing should match the website to the cent: ours is $0 for the free plan, $24.99 a month for Standard, $39.99 for Pro and $49.99 for Pro+, with hour packs at $9.99, $29.99 and $49.99, and a listing charging anything else under our name is not us. Finally, look for a support contact on the product's own domain; a clone usually has none, because answering support email is where the pretense breaks.

Where CoPilot Interview fits

CoPilot Interview is a desktop AI interview assistant from NeuraSense AI LLC, with AI mock interviews on the free plan and live captions and answers for interviews where they are allowed; follow your employer's rules on the live part. If a listing you are looking at does not pass the eight checks against the channels above, do not install it, and tell us through the site so we can report it.

Disclosure: CoPilot Interview is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell if an AI interview assistant app is fake?

Check eight things: publisher name, whether the website matches, whether screenshots show the real product, review patterns, permissions, pricing that matches the website, a support contact on the same domain, and whether the website names that store as an official download location.

Where is the official CoPilot Interview download?

From copilotinterview.com, or for Windows from the Microsoft Store listing at apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N53F7K9T8DT, both version 1.3.17. iPhone is through TestFlight while App Store review is pending; Android is an APK from our site, not Google Play.

What permissions should an AI interview assistant ask for?

Only what it needs to hear the call: the microphone, and on macOS the screen recording permission. Requests for contacts, SMS or location have no use in an interview assistant and point to a generic app wearing an interview icon.

What should I do if I installed a clone?

Uninstall it, cancel any payment through your card provider or the store, change any passwords you used with it and run a security scan. Then install from the real vendor's website or a store listing the website names.

The Microsoft Store version installs in one click and updates itself; the direct download is on our site.
