How does Parakeet AI work? You create a session in its desktop app or in desktop Chrome, give it your résumé, documents and instructions, and connect it to your call; Parakeet AI then transcribes the conversation, detects questions, suggests answers on your screen and writes AI Notes when the call ends. As of October 2026, sessions are billed in 30-minute blocks of 0.5 credit, and new users get 10 free sessions of up to 10 minutes each.
Disclosure: we make CoPilot Interview, which competes with Parakeet AI. Every Parakeet fact here comes from the vendor's own site, parakeet-ai.com (note the hyphen), including its feature, billing and privacy FAQs, checked on October 20, 2026. Where it doesn't publish a detail, we say so. Our Parakeet AI review covers whether it's worth buying; this page explains the mechanics.
How does Parakeet AI work, step by step
Parakeet AI is a general call assistant. Interviews are one mode; sales calls, client meetings and other conversations are the other. The flow is the same for both:
- Sign in. Click Try for Free on its site; Parakeet says no credit card is required.
- Create a session and pick a mode. Choose interview mode or regular call mode. Interview mode also uses the CV or résumé you upload; regular call mode doesn't. You set the session language and pick an AI model from a dropdown of Gemini, GPT and Claude options, with a fast default preselected.
- Add context. Upload documents such as briefs, notes or playbooks, and type into the Instructions field, which holds up to 20,000 characters. Parakeet's FAQ says a whole job description fits there.
- Connect it to the call. On the web, you share the browser tab your call is running in. The desktop app captures a display instead, which macOS asks you to allow as Screen Recording; Parakeet says that is how the operating system lets it hear the call, and that the picture stays on your device. Parakeet can also spot a meeting as it starts and ask whether you want to join it with a session.
- Get suggested answers. With Auto Answer on, it detects questions as they're asked and suggests answers. You can switch Auto Answer off and click Answer yourself, or type a message to it during the call.
- Review afterwards. AI Notes summarize the call with key points, the questions asked and next steps, and the transcript stays available for past sessions.
For practice, you pick a Mock Session instead of a Real Session in step 4. An AI interviewer talks to you out loud, and you read the transcript afterwards. Your first mock interview is free.
Where your audio and data go
Parakeet's privacy FAQ names the services behind each step, which is the clearest picture of how the pipeline is built (as of October 2026):
- Speech to text: audio goes to Speechmatics for transcription, with a short list of names and terms from your session so they're spelled correctly.
- Answers: the transcript, plus your résumé, job description, notes and any screenshots you attach, goes to the AI model you picked: OpenAI, Google or Anthropic (directly or through Amazon Web Services), or Cerebras.
- Documents: files you attach are indexed through Pinecone, so the assistant can look things up mid-call.
- Mock interviews: OpenAI voices the AI interviewer, and Speechmatics transcribes the conversation.
- Question Bank: interviewer questions from users' ended paid English interviews are extracted and grouped into its company-by-company Question Bank, unless you opt out.
Parakeet also says it never joins your call as a participant, that card details are handled entirely by its payment provider, and that images reach its servers only when you send a screenshot yourself.

| Phone | Mobile-optimized web app on iOS and Android; a native app is planned but not available yet |
| Phone calls | Through Google Voice, set up from the session's phone icon |

| Call apps named on its site | Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, Lark/Feishu, Amazon Chime |
How Parakeet AI credits and plans work
Billing is part of how the product behaves, because sessions spend credits in fixed blocks. Per Parakeet's billing FAQ:
- A session costs 0.5 credit per 30 minutes, for a real call or a mock interview, so one credit covers an hour.
- When an active session's timer reaches zero, it extends by another 30 minutes and 0.5 credit. An idle session doesn't extend, and you can switch Auto Extend off per session.
- Credits are taken when the session connects to your call tab (or your mic, on a phone). Cancelling or denying that capture costs nothing.
- Credits never expire. Prep tools spend them too: 0.25 credit per résumé PDF, 0.5 per headshot and 1 per Question Bank company.
| Option | Price (as of October 2026) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, no card | 10 sessions of up to 10 minutes (a new one every 12 minutes) and 1 mock interview |
| Credits | 1 for $38; 3 for $59; 8 for $118; 15 for $177 | 0.5 credit per 30-minute call or mock session |
| Unlimited | $149.90 a month; $49.99 a month billed yearly ($599.90); $78 a week | Unlimited calls and mocks, résumé PDFs, headshots and Question Bank |
| Custom | $22.90 a month per prep tool; $68.70 for all three | Resume Maker, Headshots or Question Bank only; calls stay on credits |
Refunds are narrow. The billing FAQ says: "We offer a 7-day refund window for accidental or unused purchases." A purchase stops being eligible once any part of it is used, there are no partial refunds for leftover credits, and it's one refund per person. Our Parakeet AI pricing breakdown works out the cost per interview, and how to cancel Parakeet AI covers stopping a plan.
Limits and who Parakeet AI suits
What the published design means in practice:
- Free sessions are short. Ten minutes is enough to test audio and answer speed, not to get through a full round.
- Billing rounds up to 30 minutes. A 45-minute interview uses a full credit and a 65-minute final round uses 1.5 (our arithmetic from its 0.5-credit rule).
- One language per session. If your interview switches language, you change the setting yourself.
- Browser use is Chrome-only. Other browsers aren't supported for live sessions.
- No native phone app yet. Phones use the mobile web app.
- Mock feedback is a transcript. Its site describes reading the transcript after a mock; it doesn't publish per-answer scoring.
Parakeet AI suits you if you want one assistant for work calls and interviews, if you use Linux (through desktop Chrome), or if you want to choose the model for each session. It's a weaker fit if you interview only now and then and want free practice every day, or if you want each practice answer scored.
Parakeet's own site says it is built for conversations where AI assistance is permitted, tells users to check the rules first, and honors blocklist requests from employers. Whatever tool you use, follow the rules of the employer or assessment you're in — many people use it only to practice, which works on the free plan.

Disclosure: we make CoPilot Interview.
Parakeet's advantages are real: it runs in a browser and on a phone, and it covers calls that aren't interviews. Does Parakeet AI join my Zoom or Teams call?
No. Parakeet says it never joins your call and isn't a participant, so it doesn't appear in the participant list or the recording. It hears the call through the browser tab you share or, in the desktop app, through a display capture that Parakeet says stays on your device.
Is Parakeet AI free?
Partly. As of October 2026, new users get 10 free sessions of up to 10 minutes each (you can start another every 12 minutes) plus one free mock interview, with no credit card. Full-length calls need credits or an Unlimited plan.
How many credits does a Parakeet AI interview use?
Sessions cost 0.5 credit per 30-minute block and extend automatically while active. By our arithmetic, a 30-minute call uses 0.5 credit, a 45- or 60-minute call uses 1 credit, and a 65-minute final round uses 1.5 credits.
Which AI model does Parakeet AI use?
You choose it per session from a dropdown of Gemini, GPT and Claude models, with a fast default preselected. Parakeet notes that lighter models answer faster and larger models give more detail.
Does Parakeet AI work on Linux or on a phone?
On Linux, through desktop Chrome; other browsers aren't supported for live sessions. On a phone, through the mobile-optimized web app on iOS and Android. As of October 2026 a native mobile app is planned but not yet available.
Can Parakeet AI handle interviews in other languages?
Yes. It supports 50+ languages, but it listens for one language at a time, so you have to change the session language yourself if the conversation switches.
Is there a free way to practice before paying for Parakeet AI credits?
Yes. CoPilot Interview's free plan (we make it) gives you 15 minutes every day in all four modes, including Mock Interview, which scores each spoken answer out of 10. The browser mock interview at copilotinterview.com/ai-mock-interview needs no install.
