How Does Final Round AI Work? Setup, Practice, Live Use and Debrief

The six steps of Final Round AI's Interview CoPilot loop, what the free plan covers, what Pro costs and where it falls short, from the vendor's own pages.

How does Final Round AI work? As of October 2026, Final Round AI's Interview CoPilot is a desktop app for macOS 14.4 or later and Windows that runs one loop per job: you set up a Goal with the role, your résumé and your materials, you practice or take the call with the app listening, and it writes a debrief when the session ends. The free plan covers the setup step only; practice interviews and live sessions need the paid Pro plan, which is $150 billed monthly or $25 a month billed yearly.

This guide walks through each step using Final Round AI's homepage and Final Round AI's plans page, both checked on October 20, 2026. We make CoPilot Interview, a competing app, so we stick to what Final Round publishes and label our own opinions as ours.

How does Final Round AI work, step by step

Final Round sums up its product as "Prepare. Perform. Review." In practice, that's six steps:

  1. Install the desktop app and sign in. It runs on macOS 14.4 or later and on Windows.
  2. Create a Goal for the job. Final Round's rule is one job, one Goal: you add the role, your résumé, your materials and the round you're preparing for. It parses the job description and shows a checklist of what's still missing. This part is free.
  3. Practice out loud (Pro). Practice Interview launches from the Goal, so the AI interviewer already knows the role, company, résumé and materials. You pick one of eight scenarios, and a Re-drill option replays the weak spots your last debrief flagged.
  4. Set the session options in Preflight. Before a session, you choose the answer language and, for technical rounds, the code language.
  5. Run a live session (Pro). The app listens to the call and shows a short suggested answer, which Final Round says arrives "seconds after the question" and is written the way you'd say it. It detects behavioral, coding, system design, case and domain questions without you switching modes. Screen Help reads what's on your screen, either automatically (Auto-capture) or when you click Solve screen, and puts longer coding and system-design write-ups in a separate results panel.
  6. Read the debrief. When the session ends, the app writes a plain-language debrief covering what worked, what to fix and how ready you sound. It's saved to History and to the Goal's Sessions tab, and its readiness signals feed the next practice run.

The five parts of Final Round AI at a glance

Final Round describes Interview CoPilot as "five capabilities, one app," all working from the same Goal. Here's what each part does and which plan it needs, as of October 2026:

PartWhat it doesPlan needed
Goals and prep checklistStores the role, résumé and materials for one job; parses the job description; lists what's missingFree
Practice InterviewAI interviewer in eight scenarios: General, Coding, System Design, Behavioral, Product Case, Data / ML, Salary Negotiation and Recruiter Screen; Re-drill for weak spotsPro
Live InterviewListens to the call and shows a short suggested answer to speak in your own wordsPro
Screen HelpReads a problem, diagram, document, spreadsheet or error on your screen; Auto-capture or Solve screenPro
Interview DebriefAutomatic write-up after each session, scored on readiness dimensions; saved to HistoryFree plan gets a basic AI interview report; Pro gets the advanced report and automatic debriefs

The fifth capability on its homepage is a mode it markets as designed to keep its windows out of other people's view, switched on by default in the desktop app. We don't cover that feature here.

What the free plan does and what needs Pro

The free plan is for organizing your search, not for testing the copilot. As of October 2026, it includes unlimited Goals with your résumé and materials, job-description parsing with a prep checklist, interview prep management, a basic AI interview report and the desktop app.

Everything that talks back to you is paid. Final Round's homepage says it plainly: "There is no free trial - live sessions need an active Pro subscription." The Pro card lists unlimited live Interview CoPilot sessions, automatic AI debriefs, practice interviews and Screen Help with Auto-capture, so you can't run a practice interview on the free plan either.

Tip: If you only want to rehearse answers out loud before you buy anything, use a tool whose free plan includes scored practice. CoPilot Interview's free plan gives you 15 minutes every day of Mock Interview, and the browser AI mock interview needs no install.

What Final Round AI costs (as of October 2026)

The paid plan is the same product at three billing periods, plus a yearly Premium MAX tier with what Final Round calls premium AI models:

PlanListed priceBilledUp front (our arithmetic)
Free$0Never$0
Monthly Plan$150.00 a monthEvery month$150
Quarterly Plan$83.33 a monthEvery 3 monthsAbout $250
Yearly Plan$25.00 a monthOnce a year$300
Premium MAX$41.67 a monthOnce a yearAbout $500

The "$25/mo" on the homepage's Pro card is the yearly plan's monthly equivalent. The plans page also says signed-in users can reveal "today's discount," so your quote may come in lower. On refunds, the plans-page FAQ offers a 72-hour money-back guarantee on first-time Quarterly and Yearly purchases and says monthly plans, renewals and upgrades are non-refundable. Our Final Round AI pricing guide covers the refund rules and per-interview math in detail, and the guide to cancelling Final Round AI covers the exit.

Limits worth knowing before you rely on it

Who Final Round AI suits

In our view, Final Round fits candidates early in a search who expect several rounds for the same job and will actually use the Goal, practice and debrief loop, since the debrief is what turns one session into better answers next time. The eight named practice scenarios, including salary negotiation and recruiter screens, are broader than most tools publish.

It's a weaker fit if you have one interview next week and want to try before paying, if you're on an older Mac, or if $150 for a single month is more than the job search budget allows. For other options, see our list of Final Round AI alternatives and the wider AI interview assistant comparison.

How Final Round AI compares with CoPilot Interview

Both are desktop apps that help you practice and give live answer suggestions. The differences are in what's free, what you pay and what happens after a session. Final Round figures were checked on October 20, 2026; CoPilot Interview's are from our pricing page.
