A Hireflix interview is a one-way video interview: an employer sends you a link, you watch short recorded questions and record your answers on a phone, tablet or computer with no app, login or registration, and the hiring team watches your recordings later. By default, Hireflix starts recording 3 seconds after each question finishes and allows up to 5 minutes per answer, but the employer can change the thinking time, the answer time and how many retakes you get. The facts below come from Hireflix's website and help center, read on October 20, 2026.
Take the assessment yourself and follow the employer's rules — use CoPilot Interview to practice beforehand. This guide explains the format and how to prepare for it.
What Hireflix is and who uses it
Hireflix sells one-way video interview software. Instead of scheduling a screening call with every applicant, the employer records questions once, sends each candidate a link, and reviews the answers when it suits the team. The Hireflix homepage says businesses, institutions and recruiters use it, and names customers such as Veterinary Emergency Group and Skyeng.
Hireflix is a recording platform rather than an AI interviewer: nobody, human or AI, talks with you during a Hireflix interview, and Hireflix's own pages describe people reviewing and rating the videos rather than AI scoring. It does produce automatic transcripts of your answers. If your invitation came from a system that holds a two-way conversation with you, read what an AI interviewer is instead.
How a Hireflix interview works
- You get an invitation by email or text with a link that is unique to you.
- You open it on any device with a camera and an internet connection. Hireflix says candidates don't download an app or register anywhere, and that it works in all main browsers.
- You may watch an intro video from the company about the role.
- You watch each question as a short recorded video. Hireflix's example interview recommends employers keep it to around 3 to 6 short questions, such as "tell me about yourself," a soft-skills question and a question about the position.
- You think, then record. Thinking time and the answer limit are set by the employer (see the table below).
- You retake if allowed. The employer sets how many takes you get for each question.
- You may watch an outro video that thanks you and explains the next steps.
- The employer is notified when you finish, and the team reviews your answers.
Hireflix interview settings at a glance
Because the employer configures each interview, read the instructions on screen before the first question. These are the defaults and options Hireflix documents:
| Setting | Default | What the employer can change |
|---|---|---|
| Thinking time | Recording starts 3 seconds after you finish watching the question | Unlimited (you decide when to start), or a fixed 15 seconds, 30 seconds or 1 minute |
| Answer time | 5 minutes per question | A shorter or longer limit |
| Retakes | Set by the employer | The number of takes allowed for each question |
| Number of questions | Hireflix suggests 3 to 6 | Any number of recorded questions |
| Device | Phone, tablet or computer with a camera | Not a setting: no app or registration either way |
| Interview page language | Not stated | English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Finnish, Polish, German and 10 more |
| Transcription | Automatic, in 99 languages | An expected language per position or per question |
The defaults come from Hireflix's help articles on thinking time and the answering time limit; the language list is from its pricing page. The 3-second default is the setting to prepare for: if the employer leaves it in place, you need to start talking almost as soon as the question ends.
What happens after you submit
- People review your answers. Hireflix's help center says reviewers watch the answers, rate each candidate from 1 to 5 stars, write private notes, move candidates through stages and share interviews with teammates for a second opinion.
- Transcripts help them read faster. Hireflix's transcription article says accuracy depends on the language and the audio quality, which is one more reason to record in a quiet room.
- Redoing an answer needs the employer. Hireflix's re-invite article says that if you haven't finished, the employer can resend your same link so you can continue. If you already submitted, the employer can delete specific answers so you can re-record them with the same link, or discard your interview and invite you again.
- Next steps come from the employer, not from Hireflix, so contact the recruiter with any questions about timing or results.
The Hireflix honesty statement
Hireflix's help center recommends that employers make the first question an honesty statement, asking you to confirm on video that you'll answer without the help of AI or external tools. Its article on the statement explains that in a pre-screening, employers usually want your own, unassisted thinking. If your interview starts with one, it is a rule of that interview: read it, confirm it and answer in your own words. Even without one, the employer wants to hear how you think and speak, which is the whole point of the format.
How to prepare for a Hireflix interview
- Plan for the default 3 seconds. Practice starting an answer with a direct first sentence the moment a question ends, such as "The best example is a project where I..."
- Prepare the likely questions. "Tell me about yourself," one or two behavioral questions and a question about why you want the role cover most short screens. The free STAR story builder shapes behavioral answers.
- Aim for 60 to 90 seconds even when the limit is 5 minutes. Reviewers watch many candidates, and a tight answer is easier to rate well.
- Don't count on retakes. Check the instructions for how many you get, and treat your first take as the real one.
- Set up your room. Light in front of you, a plain background, a charged phone or a plugged-in laptop, and a quiet space for a clean recording and transcript.
- Record a practice answer on your phone and watch it back once. You will spot the habit you didn't know you had.
- Do a scored rehearsal. CoPilot Interview's desktop Mock Interview builds questions from your résumé and a job description, reads each one aloud, scores your spoken answer out of 10 with what to fix and a model answer, and ends with a report card. The browser AI mock interview has 113 real questions across 9 tracks with nothing to install.
A three-day plan
| Day | Focus | What you should have at the end |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Read the job post; write a 60-second introduction and four short stories | Answers to the questions you're most likely to get |
| 2 | A scored mock interview, then two recorded practice answers on your phone | Scores per answer and one or two habits to fix |
| 3 | Set up the room and device you'll use, then take the interview when you're rested | A clean recording, done before the deadline |

Do I need to download an app for a Hireflix interview?
No. Hireflix says candidates don't download any apps or register anywhere. You open your unique link on any phone, tablet or computer with a camera and an internet connection.

By default, recording starts 3 seconds after you finish watching the question and you have up to 5 minutes to answer. The employer can change both, including giving you unlimited thinking time.

How should I practice for a Hireflix interview?
Take the assessment yourself and follow the employer's rules — use CoPilot Interview to practice beforehand. Rehearse 60 to 90 second answers that start with a direct first sentence, and record one practice answer to check your setup.
