In CoPilot Interview vs Claude for interview prep, Claude is the better tool for writing and research, while CoPilot Interview is built for spoken practice that gets scored. Claude drafts STAR stories, researches a company and runs a text or voice mock from your prompt; CoPilot Interview builds a mock interview from your résumé and job description and scores each spoken answer out of 10, with what to fix, a model answer and a report card. Yes, you can prepare with Claude alone, and many people should use both: Claude to draft, CoPilot Interview to rehearse out loud and get scored.
Disclosure: we make CoPilot Interview. CoPilot Interview is not affiliated with Anthropic, the company that makes Claude. Its Pro+ plan uses Claude models through the app. Claude facts below were checked on Anthropic's own pages as of October 2026.
Can you just use Claude to prepare for interviews?
Yes, for a lot of the work. Claude is a general AI assistant at claude.ai, and interview prep is mostly reading, writing and rehearsing, which it handles well with good prompts. Anthropic's voice mode help page even lists practicing for interviews as a use.
What Claude doesn't give you by default is structure: you write the interviewer instructions, the rubric and the scoring rules yourself, and you decide when a round is over. If you're comfortable doing that, Claude alone can carry your prep. If you'd rather open an app, pick 5 questions and get a scored round, a dedicated mock interview tool saves the setup. Our Claude prompts for interview practice give you a ready-made rubric and mock loop if you go the Claude route.
What Claude does well for interview prep (as of October 2026)
- Drafting and tightening stories. Paste rough notes about a project and ask for a STAR outline, then ask what's vague.
- Company and role research. Summarize a job description, list the skills it emphasizes, and draft questions to ask the interviewer.
- Projects. A project holds your résumé, the job description and standing instructions across chats. According to Anthropic's projects help page, projects are available to all users, and free users can create up to five.
- Voice mode (beta). Available on every plan, on mobile, desktop and web. Hands-free mode replies at natural pauses; push-to-talk listens only while you hold a button. Transcripts are saved to your chat history, and voice counts toward your usage limits.
- Flexibility. You can make it play a skeptical interviewer, a friendly recruiter or a panel, and switch at any time.
Limits to keep in mind: usage limits reset on a rolling five-hour window, so a long voice session can hit them, and scores are only as consistent as the rubric you give it.
What CoPilot Interview adds
- A mock interview built for you. Paste your résumé and the job description, choose the level, 3, 5 or 8 questions, the mix (behavioral, technical, system design, coding), your coding language and an optional focus.
- Spoken questions and answers. The app reads each question aloud and listens to your spoken answer. Coding questions never auto-submit, so you can think in silence.
- Scoring every answer. Each answer is scored out of 10 with what worked, what to fix and a model answer, then a report card at the end of the round.
- A browser version. The browser AI mock interview needs nothing installed and has 113 real questions across 9 tracks.
- Live captions and answers. Candidate Mode shows live captions of a question from your computer's audio and a structured answer in about 2 seconds after the question ends. Follow the rules of the employer or assessment you're in — many people use it only to practice, which works on the free plan.
Honest limits: the full app is desktop only (Windows 10+ and macOS 12+), the free plan is 15 minutes a day, there's no human coach, and AI feedback can be wrong. See how to use CoPilot Interview Mock Interview for a walkthrough.

How to use Claude and CoPilot Interview together
A one-week workflow we suggest:
- Day 1, Claude: Create a project with your résumé and the job description. Ask for the ten questions this role is most likely to ask, and draft STAR outlines for your four best stories. The free STAR story builder works for this too.
- Day 2, CoPilot Interview: Run a 5-question Mock Interview with the same résumé and job description. Answer out loud. Note your two lowest scores.
- Day 3, Claude: Paste the weak answer and its "what to fix" note. Ask for three ways to tighten it, then pick one in your own words.
- Days 4–5, CoPilot Interview: Rerun short rounds focused on the weak topics until the scores hold.
- Day 6, Claude voice mode: Ask for a skeptical interviewer who digs into follow-ups, to test how your stories hold up off-script.
- Day 7: One full rehearsal round, then rest.
Example prompt we wrote for step 3: Here is my spoken answer and the feedback "the result is missing." Suggest three ways to end it with a measurable result. Don't rewrite the whole answer.
When is Claude alone enough?
- Your interview is mostly written, such as a take-home or a written case.
- You're early in your search and still building your stories.
- You practice mainly on your phone, where Claude's voice mode is available.
- You enjoy writing your own prompts and rubric.
Use a dedicated scored mock interview when you need repetition at speaking pace, a consistent score per answer to track progress, and questions tied to a specific job. The same trade-off applies to other general assistants; compare CoPilot Interview vs ChatGPT and ChatGPT voice mode for interview practice.
