Hour Packs vs a Monthly Subscription: Which AI Interview Assistant Plan Is Cheaper for You?

Hour packs are cheaper when you will use two hours or fewer of live help in a month, and a monthly subscription is cheaper once three or more hours land in the same month. That is the answer at CoPilot Interview's 1-hour pack rate of $9.99; the larger packs cost less per hour and push the break-even later (see the pricing page for the hours in each pack).

Below we work the pay as you go vs subscription question for three candidate profiles: one interview, a 3-week loop and a 3-month search. Prices are in USD as shown on our pricing page on October 25, 2026.

Pay as you go vs subscription: what each option buys

Every CoPilot Interview option is either paid once or paid on repeat. Packs never expire and never renew. Subscriptions renew until you cancel. Full details are on the pricing page and in our plans explained guide.

The break-even math

The rule comes from one comparison: 1-hour packs at $9.99 against the cheapest monthly plan at $24.99. Two packs cost $19.98, less than Standard. Three packs cost just under $30; that is more than Standard. So at the 1-hour rate, packs win up to 2 hours a month and Standard wins from 3 hours.

Against Pro at $39.99 the crossover is 4 hours, since four 1-hour packs cost just under $40. Against Pro+ at $49.99 it is 5 hours. The $29.99 and $49.99 packs have a lower hourly rate, so the crossover moves later; divide the price by the hours shown on the pricing page.

One more input: a pack hour you do not use this month is still yours next year. A subscription month you do not use is gone.

Three candidate profiles, worked

These schedules are made up to show the arithmetic. Swap in your own hours. Practice on the free plan costs $0 and is left out.

3-month search: about 3 hours a month10Just under $100$59.99 for 3-month Standard, or $74.97 paid monthlySubscription

The one-interview case is clear: the pack costs less and leaves nothing to cancel. The loop is clear the other way. The 3-month search is where a larger pack might change the answer, so read the hours per pack before deciding.

What the math leaves out

If you want nothing recurring, our guide to an AI interview assistant without a subscription covers the pack-only route, and our cost overview puts other tools alongside.

A simple decision rule

  1. Count the live hours you expect in the next 30 days: rounds and full-length rehearsals that will run past a 15-minute free session.
  2. Two hours or fewer: buy packs.
  3. Three or more hours in one month: take a month of Standard, or Pro if a single day needs more than 100 minutes.
  4. Three or more hours a month for three months: the 3-month plan at $59.99 or $99.99 saves about 20% over monthly.
  5. Unsure: stay on the free plan and buy a 1-hour pack for the first real round. Nothing is wasted if you change your mind.

Where CoPilot Interview fits

CoPilot Interview is an AI interview assistant that runs as a separate desktop window beside Zoom, Teams, Meet or any call app, with live captions of each question and a structured answer in about 2 seconds. Practice comes first: AI mock interviews are included on the free plan, and live help is for interviews where it is permitted, so follow your employer's rules before you turn it on in a real round.

Frequently asked questions

Is pay as you go or a subscription cheaper for an AI interview assistant?

Packs are cheaper for two hours or fewer in a month; a subscription is cheaper from about three hours in the same month. At CoPilot Interview's $9.99 1-hour pack rate, two packs cost $19.98 and three cost just under $30 against $24.99 for a month of Standard.

Do CoPilot Interview hour packs expire?

No. Hour packs are one-time purchases that never expire and never renew. Hours left over after one search stay available for the next one, which is the main reason packs can beat a subscription for a slow or unpredictable search.

Can I use a subscription for just one month?

Yes. Subscribe when the interviews start and cancel the same day from your account page. Access runs to the end of the paid month and nothing renews. The 14-day money-back guarantee applies to that first payment if under 30 minutes of live time has been used.

How many hours are in the $29.99 and $49.99 packs?

The pricing page lists the hours in each pack, so check it before you buy. Both larger packs have a lower per-hour rate than the $9.99 1-hour pack, which moves the break-even against a subscription later than the two-hour rule above.

Start on the free plan, pay only for the hours you need

Practice with 15 free minutes every day, then add a one-time pack or a month of Standard when the real rounds arrive.
