Google Internship Interview Prep — AI Help for STEP, SWE & PM Programs
Free real-time AI assistance for Google internship interviews. Coding rounds (LeetCode-medium), behavioral questions, and Googleyness culture-fit screens. Works on Zoom and Google Meet during your real interview. Permanent free tier, no credit card.
Google's internship programs (the 4 SWE-track variants)
STEP Internship (sophomore-focused)
For first- and second-year undergraduates. Less intense than SWE Internship. Two technical rounds (LeetCode-medium difficulty) plus one behavioral. Designed to introduce early-career students to Google's engineering process.
SWE Internship (rising senior / junior)
Most common third-year and senior SWE intern path. Three technical rounds plus one behavioral. Higher difficulty bar than STEP. Strong match rates with full-time SWE roles after graduation.
PM Internship (APM Intern)
Associate Product Manager Internship. Product case interviews (CIRCLES framework), one analytical/metrics round, and Googleyness. Different skill set from SWE rounds.
Research Internship
For PhD students and ML-focused candidates. Heavy on research methodology, publication discussion, and one technical round adapted to your research area. Much smaller program than SWE.
What “Googleyness” actually means in interviews
Googleyness is the cultural-fit dimension Google explicitly grades on. Three signals interviewers look for: collaboration (do you ask clarifying questions, do you build on the interviewer's hints), comfort with ambiguity (do you panic when the problem is vague, or do you decompose it calmly), and bias for action (do you start small and iterate, or do you wait for perfect information). Don't try to fake Googleyness — interviewers can tell. Just be deliberate about asking clarifying questions and narrating your thought process.
How CoPilot Interview helps during a Google internship interview
During your live Zoom or Google Meet interview, the desktop overlay surfaces real-time prompts: pattern-recognition hints during coding rounds (which of the 15 LeetCode patterns applies), STAR framework prompts during behavioral, and structured framework reminders for PM cases. The overlay is screen-share-safe — the interviewer sees only what you intentionally share. Free tier supports Llama and Qwen models that respond in 3-5 seconds; premium models (GPT, Claude, Gemini) add reasoning depth for SWE Internship rounds where the difficulty bar is higher.
- Coding rounds: Pattern templates surface as you talk through the problem. Big-O reminder prompts when you stall. Optimal solution structure prompts on the harder problems.
- Behavioral / Googleyness: STAR+ framework prompts. Reminder to ground answers in specific examples with quantification.
- PM Internship cases: CIRCLES framework prompts (Comprehend, Identify, Report, Cut, List, Evaluate, Summarize). Helpful for the “design a feature for X” questions.
3-week prep plan if you have a Google internship interview scheduled
- Week 1: Drill the 15 LeetCode patterns from our pattern guide. Solve 5 medium problems per pattern.
- Week 2: Practice solving 2 problems back-to-back in 45 minutes. This is the Google Meet round's pacing.
- Week 3: Write 4 STAR stories covering: team conflict, leading without authority, dealing with ambiguity, and a project you're proud of. See our behavioral examples post.
FAQ
STEP Internship (sophomore-focused), SWE Internship (third-year/senior undergrads), PM Internship (APM Intern), Research Internship, UX Internship, Business Internship. SWE-track programs share similar coding-and-behavioral round structures.
Two LeetCode-medium coding problems per technical round. Two rounds for STEP, three for SWE Internship. Pattern recognition matters - the 15 standard LeetCode patterns cover most problems.
Google has not formally prohibited AI in interviews as of 2026. Default to disclosure when comfortable, follow recruiter-stated rules, use AI as legitimate prep help. See our manifesto.
Applications typically open in late July / early August for the following summer. Interviews run from September through January. Earlier applicants tend to get earlier interviews.
