Where Your AI Interview Assistant Transcript Is Saved, and What to Do With It

After an interview, the transcript your assistant produced is the most useful thing it made, and most people never look at it. Knowing where it lives also answers the privacy question that precedes trusting any tool with an interview: what was recorded, where it went, and how to remove it.

After an interview, the transcript your assistant produced is the most useful thing it made, and most people never look at it. Knowing where it lives also answers the privacy question that precedes trusting any tool with an interview: what was recorded, where it went, and how to remove it. This page lays out the data path for CoPilot Interview, a review routine that turns the transcript into better answers next time, how to delete what you do not want to keep, and the caution that applies when the machine is not yours.

The data path

DataWhere it goesHow long it stays
Audio of the call and your microphoneStreamed to transcription in short segments as the interview happensNot stored on CoPilot Interview's servers
The transcript (captions)Written to a file in your Documents folder on your own computerUntil you delete it
The text sent to the AI modelThe transcribed question and context, sent to the model you chose to generate the answerHandled under that model provider's terms; the product does not keep it
The answers shown on screenSaved alongside the transcript locallyUntil you delete it
Your résumé and job description, if you added themUsed to shape questions and answers; see the dedicated pageCovered in does an AI interview assistant store your résumé

The design is that the only durable record of an interview is a text file on your machine. The privacy reasoning behind it, and the questions to ask of any assistant, are in AI interview assistant privacy, and a comparison of how products in this category describe their data handling is in AI interview assistant privacy policies compared.

A review routine

  1. Open the transcript within an hour, while you remember the interviewer's reactions.
  2. Mark every question. Copy them into your question bank for the role; interviewers at the same company repeat them.
  3. For each answer, note three things: did it have a structure, did it have a specific example or number, and did it end. Most weak answers fail the third.
  4. Count your filler words and your longest answer. Both are better measured than guessed.
  5. Write the better version of your two weakest answers, aloud, and record them.
  6. Note any question where the assistant's suggested structure was better than what you said, and any where your own was better; both teach you when to glance and when not to.
  7. Send the follow-up email with the one point you missed, drawn from the transcript rather than memory.
  8. The fuller version of this routine, including what to do with practice transcripts, is in how to review your own interview.

Deleting what you do not want to keep

Employer devices

A transcript in the Documents folder of a machine that belongs to your current employer is a record your employer can read, and in most organisations it is their right to. Interviewing for a new job from a work laptop is a bad idea for several reasons, and this is one of them: the transcript, the installed application and the browser history all sit on a device that is managed and often monitored. If you have no other machine, use the browser demo and the mock interview on your phone for practice and keep the real interviews, and any live tool, to a personal device. The same caution applies to a shared family computer and to a machine that syncs to an account you share.

Where CoPilot Interview fits

CoPilot Interview is an AI interview assistant that streams audio for transcription in short segments without storing it, keeps the only transcript in your Documents folder, sends the transcribed text to the model you chose and nothing more, needs no account for the free plan and signs paid users in with an email link. The free plan gives 15 minutes a day of live help in sessions of up to 15 minutes, with AI mock interviews included. The transcript is for your review; it does not change the rules on using live help, so follow your employer's rules and the instructions in the invitation.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my interview transcript saved?

In your Documents folder on your own computer, as a file you can open, review and delete. Nothing is kept on CoPilot Interview's servers.

Is the audio of my interview stored?

No. Audio is streamed for transcription in short segments as the call happens and is not stored on the product's servers; the transcribed text is sent to the model you chose to generate answers.

How do I delete my transcript?

Delete the file from your Documents folder and empty the trash; if the folder syncs to a cloud service, delete it there too.

What should I do with the transcript after an interview?

Review it within an hour: copy the questions into your bank, check each answer for structure, specificity and an ending, rewrite your two weakest aloud, and use it for the follow-up email.

Can I use the assistant on my work laptop?

Better not. The transcript and the application sit on a managed device your employer can read. Use a personal device for interviews and a phone for practice if you have nothing else.

Practice this interview before the real one

The AI mock interview builds questions from your resume and the job description, reads them aloud and scores each spoken answer out of 10. Included on the free plan.
