A Talview AI interview is usually an interview with Ivy, Talview's AI interviewer: Ivy asks you questions by voice, records your answers and evaluates communication traits such as fluency, tone and relevance. Talview's FAQ says Ivy asks every candidate identical questions, and its product page adds that Ivy asks contextual follow-ups. Talview runs other formats too, including recorded video answers, multiple-choice tests, written and coding assessments and live interviews with people, and many sessions use your camera and microphone with proctoring. Every Talview fact below comes from Talview's candidate assessment FAQ and website, checked in October 2026.
Take the assessment yourself and follow the employer's rules — use CoPilot Interview to practice beforehand. Talview is also a proctoring company, so expect identity checks and recording, and plan to work alone in a quiet room.
What Talview and Ivy are
Talview sells AI proctoring and AI interviewing to organizations. Its candidate FAQ says employers, educational institutions, training agencies and others use it for hiring, exams and certifications, so the same platform can host a job interview or a licensing exam. On the hiring side, Ivy is its AI interviewer, alongside live interview rooms, telephone screening and scheduling tools.
Talview's Ivy page describes Ivy as an autonomous interviewer for structured behavioral and competency-based interviews. It says Ivy listens in real time, asks contextual follow-up questions, works across languages with brand-aligned interviewer personas, and produces reports with transcripts and scoring for the hiring team. Talview also says Ivy interprets non-verbal cues, so how you come across on camera is part of what it records.
How the Talview AI interview works
- Invitation. You get an email from a no-reply address carrying the organization's name, or an SMS. Talview says this means the employer has started the interview process for the job you applied to.
- System test. Run the System Test linked in your invite email to check your device before the day.
- Practice, if offered. Talview offers a practice video assessment for all proctored video assessments, from the link in your invite, with sample questions. There's no practice for live interviews.
- Permissions. Allow camera and microphone access, plus screen access if asked. For async and Ivy interviews, camera and microphone are required to continue.
- The interview. Ivy asks questions by voice and records your responses. Talview groups Ivy interviews with time-bound, single-attempt tests, and the timer keeps running even if your connection drops.
- Submission. You see a confirmation message, and some tests also send an email. If you reopen the link and it shows Completed, your submission went through.
- Next steps. The employer's recruiter tells you the outcome. Talview says it doesn't have access to your results, so don't contact Talview about them.

If the mobile app shows "Not Supported," or the task is an essay, a coding test or certain language tests, Talview says to switch to a laptop or desktop.
Setup checklist for a Talview interview
- Device: a laptop or desktop is recommended. Use mobile only if the assessment supports it, in Chrome or Safari.
- Browser: the latest Google Chrome (preferred), Microsoft Edge or Firefox.
- Internet: at least 512 Kbps, with 5 Mbps recommended.
- Audio and video: a working camera, microphone and speakers or headphones. Talview recommends a good external microphone on a laptop, though the built-in one works.
- Room: quiet and well lit. Talview suggests looking into the camera to keep eye contact.
- Timing: plan to finish in one sitting. Most assessments are designed for that, and the timer keeps running during breaks.
What Ivy evaluates and what recruiters see
Talview's FAQ says Ivy records your responses and evaluates key communication traits like fluency, tone and relevance. Recruiters and evaluators can see your responses, scores and recordings, AI evaluation reports if the employer turned them on, proctoring footage (video, audio and screen) and identifying details such as your name, email, candidate ID and test logs. Talview says recordings are used for integrity checks and identity verification and are shared only with authorized recruiters and evaluators.
Relevance is the trait you control most. Answer the question you were asked in your first sentence, give one specific example, and stop. Fluency comes from repetition: telling the same five stories out loud until they flow works better than memorizing scripts word for word. If English isn't your first language, our tips for non-native speakers help with pacing and clarity, and our explainer on how AI answer scoring works shows what structured feedback looks like.
Retakes, accommodations and your data
- Retakes aren't automatic. If a power cut or browser crash interrupts you, contact your recruiter or test administrator right away. They can review your logs and reassign the test if permitted.
- Disconnected from an Ivy interview? Reopen your interview link to rejoin if the session is still active. If it has ended, ask the recruiter to reschedule or give you a new slot.
- Closed the window by accident? Progress auto-saves up to the last completed question or section, but for time-bound or single-attempt tests such as Ivy interviews, contact your recruiter.
- Accommodations: Talview says it supports reasonable accommodations such as extra time or assistive technology. Tell your recruiter in advance so the assessment can be set up for you.
- Your data: Talview says it follows GDPR, SOC 2 and ISO 27001, encrypts data, deletes it after your organization's retention period and doesn't sell candidate data. You can request deletion through your recruiter or at privacy@talview.com.
- Technical help: use the Help option in your test window, which leads to FAQs, a chatbot, ticket support and phone support.
How to prepare for a Talview AI interview
| Day | Focus | What you should have at the end |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Read the invite, run the System Test and do the practice assessment if one is offered | No surprises about permissions, timing or audio |
| 2 | Five STAR stories tied to the job description, spoken out loud and timed at 60 to 90 seconds each | Stories that answer the question in the first sentence |
| 3 | A scored mock interview with spoken answers, then rest | Scores per answer and a short list of fixes |
For day 2, the free STAR story builder gives each story a clear shape. For day 3, CoPilot Interview's desktop Mock Interview builds a practice interview from your résumé and the job description. You choose the level, 3, 5 or 8 questions, and the mix of behavioral, technical, system design and coding. It reads each question aloud, listens to your spoken answer, scores it out of 10 with what to fix and a model answer, and ends with a report card. Because you speak rather than type, it's a close match for a voice-led format like Ivy. The free plan includes 15 minutes every day, and the browser AI mock interview offers 113 real questions across 9 tracks with nothing to install.
For the wider picture, see our explainer on what an AI interviewer is, our guide to how to pass an AI interview and, if you're sent a recorded format instead, what a one-way video interview is. Another assessment-heavy platform with its own setup rules is covered in our Glider AI interview guide.
Rehearse spoken answers before Ivy hears them
CoPilot Interview's Mock Interview reads each question aloud, scores your spoken answer out of 10 and shows a model answer, so your Talview interview isn't your first try. The free plan includes 15 minutes every day.
