How to Practice for an AI Interview for Free

The free ways to rehearse for an AI interviewer or an AI-scored video, what each one trains, and a 15-minute daily routine you can start today.

You can practice for an AI interview for free by combining three things: a scored AI mock interview, the practice mode on the employer's own interview platform, and a few recorded run-throughs you review yourself. Each one trains a different part of the job. The mock scores what you say, the platform practice teaches you the exact screen and timer, and the recording shows you how you sound. This guide compares the free options, shows what to practice first and gives you a 15-minute daily routine.

One rule before you start. Take the assessment yourself and follow the employer's rules — use CoPilot Interview to practice beforehand.

Most people need two or three of these. Pick by what you're weakest at: content, format or delivery.

Start with the employer's own practice mode

If your invitation comes from a platform that offers practice, use it first. It's the only free practice that matches the real screen exactly. As of October 2026:

Older guides often recommend Google Interview Warmup. Google retired it in April 2026, so you'll need another source of free spoken practice. Otherwise, check your invitation email for a practice link.

What to practice: what AI interviews usually score

Practice pays off when it targets what's actually scored. Many AI interview tools turn your spoken answer into a transcript and rate it against competencies the employer chose for the role, and a person usually makes the hiring decision. Vendors differ, so read your invitation for the format and any skills it lists. Our explainer on what AI interview scoring looks for goes deeper.

Rehearse four habits until they're automatic:

  1. Answer in your first sentence. A reviewer reading a transcript should find your point without digging for it.
  2. Give specific evidence. Your own role, the actions you took and a result with a number wherever you honestly have one.
  3. Use the job description's words where they're true. If the posting says "stakeholder communication" and you've done it, say it in those words. Stuffing in keywords you can't back up tends to hurt, because follow-up questions expose them.
  4. Speak in your own words. Many scorecard tools tend to flag answers that sound read out or AI-written, so practice from three or four bullet notes, never from a script.

A free 15-minute daily practice routine

Our free AI interview assistant includes a Mock Interview mode that scores each spoken answer out of 10, and the free plan gives you 15 minutes every day with no credit card and no signup. That's enough for one focused round a day:

  1. Set up (about 2 minutes). Paste the job description and your résumé, choose 3 questions and pick the mix that matches your invitation: behavioral for most roles, plus technical, system design or coding if the role needs it.
  2. Answer out loud (about 8 minutes). Mock Interview reads each question aloud and listens to your spoken answer. Treat it like the real thing: a few bullets at most, and no restarting halfway through an answer.
  3. Read the feedback (about 3 minutes). Each answer comes back with a score out of 10, what to fix and a model answer, and the round ends with a report card. Pick the single most important fix on your lowest-scored answer.
  4. Re-answer once (about 2 minutes). Say your weakest answer again with only that fix in mind, in your own words. Record it on your phone so you can compare it with the fix note.
  5. Log it (after the session). Write the date, the question type, the score and the fix in a note. A week of entries tells you far more than any single score.

On days you can't open the desktop app, do one graded answer in the browser demo at /try, or draft stories with the STAR builder. If you want the whole week laid out day by day, follow our one-week AI interview practice plan. For more on reading your results, see free AI interview practice with scoring.

Tip: Practice the second question, not just the first. Conversational AI interviewers often follow up on your role or your result, so after each answer ask yourself "how exactly?" and answer that out loud too.

Worked example: one practice answer, before and after

Here's what one round of practice can change. Both answers are examples we wrote for the question "Tell me about a time you had to meet a tight deadline."

Before (example): "We had a lot of deadlines at my last job, so I'm used to pressure. I just stay organized and work hard, and we usually get things done on time."

That answer has the three problems a scored mock most often points at: no specific situation, "we" where the scorer needs "I", and no result.

After (example): "Last spring our client moved a product launch up by a week, and I owned the onboarding emails. I cut the sequence from seven emails to four, drafted them in two days and booked the legal review for the same week instead of waiting in the usual queue. All four went out on the new launch date, and the client reused the sequence for its next launch."

The second version names the situation in one sentence, spends most of its length on what you did and ends with a result someone can check.

Practice the format, not only the answers

A lot of nerves in AI interviews come from the format itself: a timer, a synthetic voice and no nods or smiles to tell you you're on track. These free habits help:

What free practice can't tell you

A practice score is a direction, not a prediction. Each employer writes its own rubric and you won't see it, so a 9 out of 10 in practice doesn't promise a pass, and a 5 doesn't mean you'll fail. Use scores to find patterns: which question types you score lowest on, and whether a fix still holds a day later. Our guide to what an AI interview score out of 10 means explains how to act on low, middle and high scores.

You answer the real interview on your own, under the employer's rules. For the setup checklist and what to do if the platform glitches, read our guide on how to pass an AI interview.

FAQ

Can I practice for an AI interview for free?

Yes. CoPilot Interview's free plan includes 15 minutes every day with Mock Interview, which scores each spoken answer out of 10 with what to fix and a model answer. Some interview platforms also offer free practice: HireVue offers practice questions that only you can see, and Mercor offers a free Practice Interview that isn't shared with companies.

Is the CoPilot Interview free plan a trial?

No. It's a free plan with 15 minutes every day, no credit card and no signup, and it includes all four modes, including Mock Interview and the Resume Builder.

How much should I practice before an AI interview?

Short daily sessions work better than one long session the night before. If you have a week, do one 15-minute round a day. Even two or three rounds help you get used to answering a timer or a synthetic voice.

Does an AI mock interview help with a real AI interview?

It helps with the parts you control: answering the question directly, giving specific evidence and staying calm in the format. It can't copy any employer's rubric, so treat practice scores as a guide to what to fix, not as a prediction.

Can I see the questions before an AI interview?

Usually not the exact ones, but your invitation often names the format or skills, and practice questions built from the job description cover the likely ground. HireVue's candidate FAQ says you may be able to ask for the questions in advance as part of an accommodation, so ask the recruiter or hiring team if you need one.

Is CoPilot Interview the same as Microsoft Copilot?

No. CoPilot Interview is a desktop app made by NeuraSense AI LLC. It isn't affiliated with Microsoft, Microsoft Copilot or GitHub Copilot.
