A typical interview loop is four to six rounds of 45 to 60 minutes, so budget 4 to 6 hours of live help per company and add whatever full-length practice you want on top. Two companies in a month is 8 to 12 hours; one final round is a single hour.
The number people ask about, how many hours an AI interview assistant plan includes, matters less than one other figure: the maximum length of a single session. A plan whose sessions stop at 15 minutes cannot cover a 60-minute round however many minutes it includes. Here is how to estimate both and match them to a plan.
The estimation worksheet
Live hours = rounds per company x length of each round x companies in the period, plus practice. Use these typical lengths if you do not have the schedule yet.
| Round | Typical length | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Recruiter screen | 20 to 30 minutes | Often fits a free 15-minute session only partly |
| Hiring manager | 45 to 60 minutes | Behavioral plus role questions |
| Technical or case | 45 to 60 minutes | Coding, system design or a case |
| Panel or final loop | 2 to 4 hours | Usually split into 45 to 60 minute blocks |
Example: two companies, five rounds each, one hour per round is 10 hours. Add two full-length rehearsals with the assistant running and you are at 12 hours for the month.
Why session length matters more than total minutes
A session is one continuous stretch of listening. When it reaches the plan's cap, the captions and answers stop. On CoPilot Interview, free sessions run up to 15 minutes, Standard sessions up to 60 minutes, and Pro and Pro+ sessions up to 70 minutes.
That is why we tell people to check the session cap before the minute count. A 60-minute hiring manager round needs a 60-minute session; a 70-minute cap leaves room for the interview that runs ten minutes over, which many do. If you are the kind of candidate who gets asked to stay on for one more question, the extra ten minutes on Pro is worth more than any number of total minutes.
Matching your estimate to CoPilot Interview limits
Prices and limits are from our pricing page on October 25, 2026.
| Plan | Session cap | Daily total | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free, $0 | 15 minutes | 15 minutes a day | Practice, short screens |
| Hour packs from $9.99 | Hours listed on the pricing page | One-time, never expire | One or two rounds |
| Standard, $24.99 a month | 60 minutes | Up to 100 minutes, no gap between sessions | One long round a day plus a screen |
| Pro, $39.99 a month | 70 minutes | Unlimited sessions, no gap | Several rounds in one day |
| Pro+, $49.99 a month | 70 minutes | Unlimited sessions, no gap | As Pro, with more models |
The daily total is the second limit to check. Standard's 100 minutes a day covers one hour-long round and a half-hour screen; a final-loop day with three one-hour blocks needs Pro or Pro+. Our page on back-to-back interviews goes through that day in detail, and plans explained lists every limit.
Count practice minutes too
AI mock interviews are included on the free plan: paste the job description and your resume, choose the level and the mix, and an AI interviewer asks questions, reads them aloud and scores each spoken answer out of 10. That is where most preparation should happen, and it is where we would put your first weeks.
If you also want full-length rehearsals with the live assistant running, count those sessions in your estimate like any other. Our guide on how often to practice suggests a cadence; most people do fine with mock interviews on the free plan and save live sessions for the real rounds.
Three worked estimates
- One final round next week: 1 hour. Free plan for practice plus a 1-hour pack at $9.99. Make sure the pack's session cap covers the round length shown on the pricing page.
- A 3-week loop: 5 rounds plus 2 rehearsals, about 7 hours in one month. One month of Standard at $24.99, provided no single day exceeds 100 minutes.
- A 3-month search: two or three companies, 15 to 20 hours spread over the quarter, with some stacked days. 3-month Pro at $99.99, or 3-month Standard at $59.99 if the days are not stacked.
When the hours are small or uncertain, our hour packs vs subscription page has the break-even rule: packs win at two hours or fewer in a month.
Where CoPilot Interview fits
CoPilot Interview is an AI interview assistant that runs as a separate desktop window, listens to the call audio and your microphone, and shows live captions of each question with a structured answer in about 2 seconds. It never joins the meeting. Practice comes first, and live help is for interviews where it is permitted, so follow your employer's rules on every round.
Disclosure: CoPilot Interview is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.
Frequently asked questions
How many hours of live help does a job search need?
Budget 4 to 6 hours per company, since a typical loop is four to six rounds of 45 to 60 minutes, and add any full-length rehearsals. One company in a month is about 5 hours; two is 8 to 12. Practice with mock interviews is separate and free.
Is session length or total minutes more important?
Session length. A 60-minute round needs a session cap of at least 60 minutes; total minutes only matter once the cap fits. CoPilot Interview's free sessions run 15 minutes, Standard 60 minutes and Pro or Pro+ 70 minutes.
Can the free plan cover a real interview?
It covers calls that fit inside 15 minutes, such as a short recruiter screen, and it covers unlimited AI mock interview practice. Anything longer than 15 minutes needs a pack or a subscription.
What if I have three interviews in one day?
Three one-hour blocks is 180 minutes, more than Standard's 100-minute daily total. Pro and Pro+ allow unlimited 70-minute sessions with no gap between them, so a stacked final-loop day points to Pro.
