Do AI Interview Assistants Charge for Mock Interviews?

Some do and some bundle them. CoPilot Interview includes AI mock interviews on its free plan with no credit card; several competitors cap free practice at a few sessions a month, sell it as credits, or keep it for paid tiers while giving away reading material. So a free AI mock interview exists, but the fine print on "free" varies more than the headline.

Here is how the pricing models for practice work, why mock interviews are so often the paid part, what a good free one should include, and how ours works.

The four ways tools price practice

ModelHow it worksWhat to check
Free and includedMock interviews on the free plan, repeat as often as you likeWhether scoring and feedback are included or only the questions
Capped per monthA small number of sessions free, often three or five a monthWhether a session is a full interview or a single question
CreditsBuy a bundle; each session or question costs a creditCredit expiry and what one credit actually buys
Paid onlyPrep articles free, practice behind a subscriptionWhether the free tier lets you try one session first

The capped and credit models are where people get surprised. Three sessions a month sounds like plenty until you realize a session ends after one question, or the credits expire with the month.

Why mock interviews are often the paid part

A mock interview is expensive for the vendor to run: it generates questions from your resume, turns them into speech, transcribes your answer, and scores it with a model. That is several AI calls per question, which is why many tools ration it.

It is also the part that improves you most, which is why we think rationing it is the wrong call. Live help in a real interview is useful where it is permitted, but practice is what changes how you answer. Our roundup of the best AI mock interview tools looks at what each one includes at the free level.

What a good free mock interview should include

A mock interview that does not score your spoken answer is a question list, not practice. For a closer look at scoring, see our page on free AI interview practice with scoring.

How CoPilot Interview's free mock interviews work

Paste the job description and your resume, choose the level and the mix, and an AI interviewer asks questions built from your resume, reads them aloud, and scores each spoken answer out of 10 with what worked, what to improve and a model answer. This is included on the free plan, which is $0 forever with no credit card, and the AI mock interview page has the walkthrough.

The free plan's live help, 15 minutes a day in sessions of up to 15 minutes, is a separate allowance; our page on how the free 15 minutes a day works explains what the live timer counts. The free plan uses free AI models, with Mercury 2.5 by Inception as the default.

Comparing free practice across tools

Without naming prices, the free tiers we checked on October 25, 2026 fell into the patterns above: a few tools give a one-time trial session, several give a monthly allowance of three or five sessions, some sell practice as credits, and a few keep practice entirely behind a paid plan. Daily allowances for live help, like ours, were rarer than monthly caps on practice.

Whatever tool you practice with, the live side has a rule attached: follow your employer's rules on AI help in real interviews, and when the policy is unclear, ask the recruiter. Practice has no such restriction, which is one more reason to put your hours there.

Where CoPilot Interview fits

CoPilot Interview is an AI interview assistant that treats practice as the main event: mock interviews are free and unlimited by plan, and live help is for interviews where it is permitted. Paid plans add longer live sessions and premium models, not practice.

Disclosure: CoPilot Interview is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Are AI mock interviews free?

Some are. CoPilot Interview includes AI mock interviews on its free plan with no credit card. Other tools cap free practice at three or five sessions a month, sell it as credits, or reserve it for paid tiers, so check what a free session actually includes.

What should a free AI mock interview include?

Questions built from your resume and the job description, a choice of level and mix, questions read aloud, and a score for each spoken answer with what worked, what to improve and a model answer. Without scoring it is a question list, not practice.

Do CoPilot Interview mock interviews count against the free 15 minutes?

The free plan's 15 minutes a day is an allowance for live help, where the timer runs while the assistant is listening on a call. AI mock interviews are included on the free plan as a separate feature.

Why do some tools charge for mock interviews?

Each question costs the vendor several AI calls: generating it, reading it aloud, transcribing your answer and scoring it. Many tools ration practice to control that cost, even though practice is the part that improves candidates most.
