The best AI interview assistant for recruiters depends on how many people interview: for individual interviewers and small hiring teams, our pick is CoPilot Interview's Interviewer Mode, which suggests role-specific questions, scores answers as they happen and drafts an evaluation report, with a free plan to start. Larger recruiting teams that need recordings, ATS sync and hiring analytics should also look at interview intelligence platforms such as Metaview and BrightHire.
On the hiring side of the table, an AI interview assistant is software that supports the interviewer before, during and after a conversation: it proposes structured questions, captures notes, maps answers to a rubric and drafts the write-up, while a person makes the decision. Search results for the term mix this meaning with candidate-side tools, which we cover in what the term means for candidates; our report on the state of AI interview assistants in 2026 covers both. Every vendor fact below comes from that vendor's own site, checked October 2026.
What should recruiters look for in an interviewer-side AI tool?
Feature lists in this category look alike. These seven criteria separate the tools once you use them with real candidates:
- Structured questions. Does it build a question plan from the role and suggest follow-ups, so every candidate gets a comparable interview? Structure, more than AI, is what makes interviews consistent; our guide to structured vs unstructured interviews explains why.
- Rubric scoring with evidence. A score is only useful if it points to what the candidate actually said. Look for scores tied to quotes or notes, not a single number.
- Notes and transcripts. Automatic notes save the most time. Check where recordings and transcripts are stored, who can see them and how long they are kept.
- ATS sync. If your team works in Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby, a tool that writes scorecards back into the ATS saves copying and pasting after every call.
- Candidate notice and consent. Look for built-in recording notices or consent messages, or plan to send your own in every invite.
- Pricing model. Per seat, per agent, per interview or quote-based. Most platforms built for larger teams only quote after a demo.
- Compliance posture. A SOC 2 report, GDPR terms, data-retention controls and, where you hire, support for bias audits.

The 6 best options for recruiters, reviewed
1. CoPilot Interview Interviewer Mode: best for individual interviewers and small teams
Interviewer Mode is part of the same desktop app candidates use to prepare. You pick the role and the competencies, and it proposes role-specific questions and follow-ups grounded in what the candidate just said. Each answer is transcribed and scored as it happens against rubric-style dimensions, and a structured evaluation report with section scores and red and green flags is ready when the call ends. The app runs in its own window beside Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet and listens to your computer's audio, so nothing joins the call as an extra participant.
Why it's our Best choice: you can try it today at $0, with no account, no card and no procurement, and every interviewer on a small team works from the same question plan and scoring structure. The free plan includes all four modes, so the same download also covers Mock Interview and the Resume Builder.
Honest limits: free sessions stop at 15 minutes, so a full 45- or 60-minute interview needs Standard ($14.99/mo on sale, 60-minute sessions) or Pro ($29.99/mo, 70-minute sessions). It's a desktop app for Windows and macOS only, it lists no ATS integration or shared recording library, and its scores are drafts for you to check, not decisions. Teams that need multiple seats can ask about CoPilot Interview for teams and enterprise; that pricing is custom.
2. Metaview: best for notes and scorecards that land in your ATS
Metaview calls itself "The Agentic Recruiting Platform." Its notetaker handles interview notes, scorecards and follow-ups automatically, and the platform adds agents for sourcing, application review, screening and scheduling. It lists integrations with Ashby, Greenhouse, Lever, Gem and SmartRecruiters, and its site footer lists SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and CCPA.
Strengths: wide ATS coverage and automation that reaches beyond the interview itself. Limits: Metaview's pricing page charges per user for each agent you use, and the notetaker price was not shown in the page text we could read, so ask for a quote at your seat count. Candidate consent features are not stated on its homepage.
3. BrightHire: best for interview analytics at scale
BrightHire describes itself as an "interview intelligence platform." Zoom announced its acquisition of BrightHire on November 13, 2025, and says the deal closed in December 2025 and that customers keep access to the platform (Zoom's announcement). Its features include compliant recording and transcription, AI notes, real-time interview guides, one-click scorecard submission and an AI Screen interviewer for first rounds. It lists SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and CCPA compliance, role-based access and customizable data retention, and describes a "consent-first design."
BrightHire's pricing page is quote-based across three tiers: Recruiters (recording, notes, ATS scorecard completion and a third-party bias audit), Teams (adds an interview-plan copilot, interviewer coaching, quality analytics and SSO) and Enterprises (custom reporting, custom ATS integrations and a REST API). Strengths: the deepest analytics and coaching for interviewers in this list. Limits: no published prices, and it's built for teams rather than a single interviewer.
4. BarRaiser AI Interview Copilot: best for live guidance in structured loops
BarRaiser's AI Interview Copilot walks interviewers through each round on screen. It generates follow-up questions live, offers a bank of 100+ ready-to-use questions and custom questions drawn from the candidate's profile, nudges you to cover every skill on the plan, and produces instant scorecards with ratings linked to interview quotes. It names Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, and lists Greenhouse, Lever and Workday as ATS integrations.
Strengths: the closest thing to a real-time copilot for the interviewer, with evidence attached to every rating. Limits: no pricing and no compliance certifications appear on that page; you book a demo to learn more.
5. Hedy: best general meeting coach that also covers interviews
Hedy, from Hedy AI LLC, is an AI meeting and conversation coach that shows suggestions in real time and writes summaries, action items and highlights afterwards. Its homepage lists recruiters and hiring managers as a use case, to "run structured interviews and capture candidate responses." It runs on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows and the web, and transcribes on your device by default.
On Hedy's pricing page, the Free plan covers up to 5 hours a month; Pro costs $12.99 a month or $99.99 a year; Team costs $12.99 per seat a month or $99.99 per seat a year for 2 to 200 seats and adds an admin dashboard; and Enterprise, on an annual contract with a 200-seat minimum, adds SSO/SAML and audit logs. Strengths: low per-seat price and every platform, including phones. Limits: it isn't built for hiring specifically, so rubric scoring and ATS write-back aren't stated. Our Hedy AI vs CoPilot Interview comparison goes deeper.
6. FloCareer: best if you want someone else to run first rounds
FloCareer calls itself a "human + AI interviewing platform": expert interviewers on demand, or its AI interviewer for screening and coding rounds, with scorecards built on standardized skill rubrics, recordings and transcripts. Its pricing page lists expert-led interviews at $25 (Standard) or $30 (Elite) each, and AI interviews starting at $8 plus $0.08 a minute (Standard) or $10 plus $0.10 a minute (Elite), with prepaid or postpaid billing.
Strengths: published per-interview prices and no seat licenses. Limits: it replaces the interviewer for a round rather than assisting one, so candidates meet an outside expert or an AI, and its homepage names no compliance certifications. An AI interviewer is a different product from an interviewer's assistant; see what an AI interviewer is.
We left out Pillar. Employ announced in March 2025 that it had acquired the interview intelligence platform, and we could not find a current product page to verify its features.
Do recruiters have to tell candidates they're using an AI interview assistant?
Often, yes, and it's good practice everywhere. Three rules come up for many teams. This is general information, not legal advice:
- New York City Local Law 144. If you use an automated employment decision tool for candidates in New York City, the city's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection requires a bias audit within one year of use, a public summary of the results, and notice to candidates 10 business days before use. Enforcement began on July 5, 2023. Whether a note-taker counts depends on how its output feeds your decision, so check with counsel if scores influence who advances.
- EU AI Act. Annex III lists AI systems "intended to be used for the recruitment or selection of natural persons," including those used to evaluate candidates, as high-risk (the European Commission's AI Act Service Desk). High-risk systems carry extra duties for providers and the employers who deploy them.
- Recording consent. Rules on recording a call vary by state and country, and some require every party's consent.
In practice: say in the interview invite that you use an AI assistant for notes or question support, explain who sees the output and how long you keep it, offer a way to opt out, and keep a person accountable for every decision. Our guide to using an AI assistant as a hiring manager covers consent and bias in more depth, and AI in hiring statistics for 2026 tracks adoption and new laws.
Which tool should your hiring team choose?
- One interviewer, or a founder hiring the first ten people: CoPilot Interview's Interviewer Mode. It's free to start and there is nothing to buy before you know whether it helps.
- A recruiting team on Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby that wants notes and scorecards written back: Metaview or BrightHire.
- Engineering teams that want an on-screen guide during structured loops: BarRaiser.
- Recruiters who also run client or sales calls and want one coach for all of them: Hedy.
- Teams short on interviewer hours that want first rounds run for them: FloCareer.
Whichever you choose, write the rubric first. A tool can only score against criteria you have defined, and a shared rubric is what lets two interviewers compare notes fairly. To see how candidates experience the other side, read how recruiters view candidates who use AI, and if you also run training for campus hires, compare AI mock interview platforms for career centers.
Practice it: run a mock interview from both sides
Before you use any assistant with real candidates, rehearse with it. Run Interviewer Mode in a 15-minute mock with a colleague playing the candidate, then compare its report with your own notes: did it score the evidence you would have scored? Then switch seats. The free browser AI mock interview shows what practice looks like for candidates, and CoPilot Interview's AI interview assistant for candidates runs scored Mock Interviews built from a résumé and a job description, with each spoken answer scored out of 10.
Knowing both sides helps you write a clear AI policy for candidates. If you are a candidate reading this: follow the rules of the employer or platform you're interviewing with — many people use it only to practice, which works on the free plan.

What is the best AI interview assistant for recruiters?
For individual interviewers and small teams, our pick is CoPilot Interview's Interviewer Mode: role-specific questions, answers scored as they happen and an evaluation report, free to start with 15 minutes a day. For larger teams that need recordings, ATS sync and analytics, Metaview and BrightHire are built for that. We make CoPilot Interview.
Is there a free AI tool for interviewers?
Yes. CoPilot Interview's free plan includes Interviewer Mode with 15 minutes a day and sessions up to 15 minutes, with no account or card. Hedy also has a free plan with up to 5 hours a month, though it is a general meeting coach. Metaview, BrightHire and BarRaiser sell through per-user pricing or demos.
What's the difference between interview intelligence and an interviewer copilot?
Interview intelligence platforms such as BrightHire and Metaview record, transcribe and summarize interviews, then push notes and scorecards into your ATS. An interviewer copilot such as BarRaiser or CoPilot Interview's Interviewer Mode focuses on the live conversation, suggesting the next question and scoring answers as they happen. Several tools now do some of both.
Do I need candidate consent to use AI in interviews?
It depends on where you and the candidate are. Recording laws vary, New York City Local Law 144 requires notice 10 business days before using an automated employment decision tool, and the EU AI Act treats AI used to evaluate candidates as high-risk. Tell candidates in the invite and check with counsel.
Can an AI tool make the hiring decision?
It should not. Treat AI scores as drafts linked to evidence, review them against your rubric, and keep a person accountable for every decision. Automated scoring can also bring legal duties, such as bias audits, in some places.
Does CoPilot Interview's Interviewer Mode integrate with an ATS?
No ATS integration is listed. It produces an evaluation report you can edit and copy into your own system. Teams that need multiple seats can contact us about Enterprise, which has custom pricing.
