Practice an Interview Conversation With AI for Free: Three Ways That Work

There are three free ways to practice an interview conversation with AI that actually involve talking: a browser demo that asks real interview questions and shows a structured answer to compare with yours, a full mock interview that builds questions from your résumé and the job description, reads them aloud, scores each spoken answer and follows up, and the voice mode of a general chat assistant prompted to play interviewer. All three cost nothing; they differ in how much they know about your target job and how honest their feedback is.

How to get a usable interviewer out of a general voice assistant, prompt included, is in ChatGPT voice mode for interview practice.

Why speaking matters

Interview answers that are fine in your head fall apart aloud: they run long, the example arrives late, the result never comes. Typing practice answers hides all of that. Spoken practice with a timer exposes it in one session, and spoken practice with a score shows whether the fix worked. It is also the only way to rehearse the two-second silence before you start, which is where nerves live. The comparison with practicing against a human is in AI mock interview vs practicing with a friend: the friend is kinder and less available.

A twenty-minute session tonight

  1. Minutes 0 to 2: open the browser demo, pick your track, answer one question aloud, read the structured answer.
  2. Minutes 2 to 12: in the mock interview, paste the job description and answer five questions aloud; do not restart any.
  3. Minutes 12 to 17: read the scores and model answers; pick the lowest two and say them again in your own words.
  4. Minutes 17 to 20: write the one thing you will fix tomorrow. Usually it is "start with the result" or "stop at 90 seconds".

Making it a habit

Where CoPilot Interview fits

CoPilot Interview is an AI interview assistant whose free offerings cover the first two options above: the browser demo with 145 real questions across 10 tracks, and the AI mock interview in the desktop app with spoken questions, scores out of ten, model answers and follow-ups. The free plan gives 15 minutes a day of live help in sessions of up to 15 minutes, with AI mock interviews included. Practice is the use nobody objects to; if you later consider live help in a real interview, follow your employer's rules.

Disclosure: CoPilot Interview is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

How can I practice an interview conversation with AI for free?

Use the browser demo at /try (145 real questions, no signup), the free AI mock interview in CoPilot Interview's desktop app (scored spoken answers from your résumé and job description), or a chat assistant's voice mode prompted to play interviewer.

Does the free mock interview score my answers?

Yes. Each spoken answer is scored out of ten with reasons, a model answer to compare with, and follow-up questions.

Is practicing aloud really better than writing answers?

Yes. Speaking exposes length, late examples and missing results that typing hides, and it rehearses the pause before you start.

How long should a practice session be?

Twenty minutes: one demo question, five mock questions, review of the two lowest scores, one fix written down for tomorrow.

Can a general chat assistant replace a mock interview?

For conversational flow, partly. It scores inconsistently and tends to flatter, so use it alongside a tool that gives structured comparison.
