For practice, usually no. You can run practice questions in CoPilot Interview's browser demo at /try with no account, and the free desktop plan works without one too. You sign in only when you buy a plan, and sign-in is an email link rather than a password, so your plan follows you across devices.
Many other tools ask you to sign up before you see a single question. Below are the three levels of commitment, what an account actually holds, and when signing up for an AI interview assistant is worth it.
Three levels: try it, use it free, sign in
| Level | What you do | Account? | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Try in the browser | Open /try | No | Practice questions and the answer flow, no download |
| 2. Use the free desktop plan | Download for Windows or macOS | No | $0 forever, no credit card, 15 minutes of live help every day in sessions of up to 15 minutes, AI mock interviews included |
| 3. Buy a plan | Pick Standard, Pro, Pro+ or an hour pack | Yes, by email link | Your plan attached to your email so it follows you across devices |
The first two levels cover most of the preparation anyone does. We keep a running list of tools that work this way in free AI interview assistants with no signup.
Why a paid plan needs an account at all
A plan has to be attached to something more durable than one computer. Hour packs never expire, subscriptions renew, and people reinstall Windows or switch laptops. Your email address is the key that brings the plan back. Sign-in is a link sent to that address: there is no password to invent, forget or leak. When you click the link, the app knows which plan you have, and that is the end of the login.
The free plan does not need any of this, because its 15 minutes a day reset daily and nothing carries over.
What an account holds, and what it does not
An account exists so your plan follows you; it is not where your interviews live. It holds your email address and your purchase status. It does not hold your interviews: audio is streamed in short segments for transcription and is not stored on our servers; a text transcript is saved only in your Documents folder; the transcribed text goes to the AI model you choose. Signing in changes which plan the app applies, not where your data goes. The full picture is in AI interview assistant privacy.
How this compares with other tools
Most of the interview tools we compared ask for an account before you can do anything, and some ask for a card before a trial starts. Among the ones with published prices, as of October 25, 2026: Final Round AI's free tier covers prep materials, with no free trial of live sessions; Cluely has a free Starter tier with limited responses; Sensei AI has a free plan with 15-minute sessions. Whether each of those requires an account first is something to check on their sites. What we can say is that with CoPilot Interview the browser demo and the free desktop plan need none. Is CoPilot Interview free lays out exactly what the free plan includes.
When signing up for an AI interview assistant is worth it
- You want more than 15 minutes of live help a day, or sessions longer than 15 minutes. Standard is $24.99 a month with 60-minute sessions and up to 100 minutes a day; Pro is $39.99 a month with 70-minute sessions and no limit on the number of sessions.
- You use two computers, for example a work laptop for mock interviews and a personal one for calls.
- You want an hour pack: $9.99 buys 1 hour and it never expires. See the pricing page for the hours in the larger packs.
- You want the refund protection: a 14-day money-back guarantee on the first payment of a new subscription, as long as under 30 minutes of live session time has been used.
None of this is required for practice. Live help is for interviews where it is allowed, so follow your employer's rules before you buy minutes for a specific call.
Where CoPilot Interview fits
CoPilot Interview is a desktop AI interview assistant for Windows and macOS with a browser demo for trying it first. The order we recommend is the order above: try a question at /try, download the free plan and run AI mock interviews built from your resume, and sign in only if you decide you want more live minutes.
Disclosure: CoPilot Interview is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an email address to use /try?
No. The browser demo runs practice questions with no signup, no email and no download. It is meant to show you the answer flow before you install anything, and nothing you do there is tied to an account.
Is there a password?
No. Sign-in is an email link. You enter your address, click the link we send, and the app recognizes your plan. There is nothing to remember or reset, and you only do it at all once you have bought a plan.
Does the free desktop plan need a credit card?
No. The free plan is $0 forever with no card: 15 minutes of live help every day in sessions of up to 15 minutes, free AI models, and the AI mock interviews included. It also needs no account.
What happens to my plan if I reinstall or switch computers?
Sign in with the same email link on the new machine and your plan follows you. That is the main reason paid plans use an account at all. The free plan needs nothing, because its daily minutes reset anyway.
Does my account store my transcripts?
No. A text transcript is saved only in your Documents folder on the computer you used. Audio is streamed in short segments for transcription and is not stored on our servers. The account holds your email and your plan status.
