AI Interview Assistant That Uses Your Resume: 7 Tools Compared (2026)

Which tools turn your résumé and the job description into practice questions or tailored answers, what their privacy policies say about the file, and a 10-minute test to check.

An AI interview assistant that uses your resume reads your résumé and the job description and turns them into practice questions, suggested answers or a tailored résumé, so you rehearse your own projects instead of generic ones. Our pick is CoPilot Interview: its Mock Interview builds every question from both documents, scores each spoken answer out of 10, and keeps session files in your own Documents folder, free for 15 minutes a day. Final Round AI, LockedIn AI, Verve AI, Sensei AI, Big Interview and Huru also take a résumé, but they use it in different places and say different things about what happens to the file.

We make CoPilot Interview, so read this list with that in mind. Every competitor fact below comes from the vendor's own website or privacy policy, checked in October 2026, and we link each one. Where a vendor doesn't say something, we write "not stated" rather than guess. This page is part of our report on the state of AI interview assistants in 2026.

How does an AI interview assistant use your resume?

In general terms, the tool turns your documents into text and adds that text to the instructions it sends a language model, along with the question being asked. The model can then draw on your projects, tools and results instead of inventing a generic example. Where the context goes differs by product:

Our explainer on résumé and job-description context covers the mechanics and what to leave out of any paste in detail; this page compares the tools.

The seven tools, reviewed

1. CoPilot Interview: Best choice

CoPilot Interview is an AI interview assistant whose mock rounds start from your résumé, a desktop app for Windows and Mac. Two of its features use the résumé. Mock Interview takes your résumé and the job description, lets you choose the level, 3, 5 or 8 questions, the mix (behavioral, technical, system design, coding) and an optional focus, then reads each question aloud. You answer out loud, and each answer gets a score out of 10 with what worked, what to fix and a model answer, then a report card. The Resume Builder makes a tailored résumé from a job URL and your résumé, and includes a referral-message generator. Want to see the kind of questions a posting produces first? Try the free interview questions from a job description tool.

CoPilot Interview also has a live Candidate Mode. Follow the rules of the employer or platform you're interviewing with — many people use it only to practice, which works on the free plan.

2. Final Round AI

Final Round AI organizes prep around "Goals." A Goal combines your role, résumé, materials and the round you're preparing for, and its practice interviewer already knows your role, company, résumé and materials. The free plan includes unlimited Goals with résumé and materials, job description parsing and a prep checklist; practice interviews and live sessions need Pro.

3. LockedIn AI

LockedIn AI's homepage says its Interview Copilot shows a personalized answer based on your résumé and job description. Its privacy policy (last updated September 17, 2026) explains how: uploaded documents are used to extract text and create vector embeddings, a searchable form of the text, for context-aware answers.

4. Verve AI

Verve AI's homepage lists three documents you can upload, résumé, job description and company values, and says the copilot learns from your background and goals. It also offers mock interviews and a résumé builder.

5. Sensei AI

Sensei AI's homepage has an "Upload your resume" step and says the tool uses your background and skills to tailor answers; onboarding also asks for job information. Its AI Story Editor, a place to shape personal stories that feed personalized answers, is on both the Free and Pro plans.

6. Big Interview

Big Interview's Interview Simulator says you can upload your résumé and get personalized questions that match your experience and job goals, or base questions on a job description instead. Practice is voice-only, "just like a real phone screen," with feedback on delivery and answer quality.

7. Huru

Huru is free for job seekers. It builds interviews from a role in its library, a pasted job description or questions you write, and its Chrome extension turns a job post into a custom interview. Its AI resume builder tailors your résumé to a job; its site doesn't say mock interviews draw on your résumé.

What happens to the résumé you upload?

A résumé holds your name, contact details, employers and dates, so treat an upload like sharing it with a new company. Before you upload, check four things on the vendor's own privacy policy:

  1. Retention. How long is the file kept, and is it deleted with your account? LockedIn AI says documents go when the account goes; Final Round AI ties retention to what is "reasonably necessary."
  2. Training. Can your files train AI models? Final Round AI's policy says selected uploads may; most others don't say.
  3. Deletion. Can you delete a document without deleting your account, and who do you contact?
  4. Last updated. A policy last updated in 2024 may not describe features added since.

Whatever the policy says, remove your home address, date of birth and any ID numbers first; the model doesn't need them. CoPilot Interview's approach is in our privacy policy: session files stay in your Documents folder, and nothing is kept on our servers beyond the request.

How can you test whether a tool really uses your résumé?

Marketing pages all say "personalized." A 10-minute test we wrote shows whether it's true:

  1. Plant a detail. Add one specific, true line to your résumé, such as a project name and a number ("cut report build time from 40 to 6 minutes").
  2. Ask a generic question. "Tell me about a time you improved performance." A tool that uses your résumé should reach for that project without being told.
  3. Check the job description. Paste a posting that stresses one skill and see whether the questions or answers mention it.
  4. Look for inventions. If the answer adds a team size, tool or result you never wrote, the tool is filling gaps; you'll have to catch that every time.
  5. Update and rerun. Change the planted line and run the question again. If the answer still uses the old version, the tool is caching an older upload.

Run the same five steps on every tool you're considering and compare the answers side by side.

Practice it: from résumé to scored mock in 15 minutes

Practice first; it's where résumé context pays off most.

  1. Update your résumé with your last six months of work and two or three numbers you can defend.
  2. Generate likely questions from the posting with the job description question generator, and mark the three you'd least like to answer.
  3. Run a 5-question Mock Interview from your résumé and the posting; our walkthrough of a mock interview from a job description covers the settings.
  4. Redo the lowest-scoring answer out loud in your own words, then add the improved version to your STAR story bank.

FAQ

Which AI interview assistant uses your resume best?

Our pick is CoPilot Interview, because its Mock Interview builds every question from your résumé and the job description, scores each spoken answer out of 10 and keeps session files in your Documents folder, free for 15 minutes a day. Final Round AI, LockedIn AI, Verve AI, Sensei AI and Big Interview also use a résumé, in different ways. We make CoPilot Interview, so weigh our view accordingly.

Is it safe to upload my résumé to an AI interview tool?

It depends on the vendor. Read its privacy policy for retention, AI training and deletion before you upload, and remove your home address, date of birth and ID numbers first. As of October 2026, Final Round AI's policy says selected uploads may be used for AI training, while LockedIn AI's says documents are deleted with your account.

What file formats do AI interview tools accept for résumés?

Most of the vendors we checked don't list accepted formats on their public pages; the examples on some homepages show PDF files. If a format matters to you, try the free plan first or ask the vendor's support team before you pay.

Do I need to upload a job description too?

It helps. The résumé tells the tool who you are; the job description tells it what the employer asked for. Practice questions built from both are closer to what a real interviewer will ask than questions built from either one alone.

Can a tool invent details that aren't on my résumé?

Yes. Language models can fill gaps with plausible-sounding team sizes, tools or results. Run the planted-detail test on this page, and never say anything in an interview that you can't back up.

Can I use my résumé-aware assistant during a real interview?

Employers set their own rules, and many don't allow outside help. Follow the rules of the employer or platform you're interviewing with — many people use it only to practice, which works on the free plan.
