With an interview on Monday and only the weekend to prepare, spend Saturday building your story bank and running two short mock interviews, and Sunday on targeted drills, a tech check and rest. About six working hours on Saturday and three on Sunday is enough; more than that and Monday's voice and attention pay for it. Everything below fits the free plan, which gives you 15 minutes of assistant time each day with the AI mock interviews included.
If you have a full week, use the seven-day plan instead; if the interview is tomorrow, the one-day plan is the right cut.
The weekend interview prep plan, hour by hour
| Day | Time | Block | What you do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saturday | 9:00 to 9:30 | Read the posting | List the three to five problems the role exists to solve, in their words |
| Saturday | 9:30 to 11:00 | Story bank | Six stories, four lines each: situation, what you did, result, what it shows. Map each to a problem from the posting |
| Saturday | 11:00 to 11:15 | Mock one, about 7 minutes | Behavioral mix, three questions aloud; read the scores; write one fix |
| Saturday | 11:15 to 12:30 | Company research | Two specifics about the company, one about you; draft “tell me about yourself” and your reason for leaving |
| Saturday | 12:30 to 14:00 | Break | Lunch, a walk, no notes |
| Saturday | 14:00 to 15:30 | Role knowledge | The two technical or domain topics the posting mentions most; notes, not slides |
| Saturday | 15:30 to 15:45 | Mock two, about 7 minutes | Technical or mixed, three questions; apply the morning's fix; write fix two |
| Saturday | 15:45 to 16:30 | Your questions | Five questions for the interviewer, two about the problems listed at 9:00. Stop for the day |
| Sunday | 10:00 to 10:15 | Drill, 15 minutes | One mock session narrowed to Saturday's weakest category; redo the lowest-scored question once |
| Sunday | 10:15 to 11:00 | Stories aloud | All six stories once each, standing, no notes; cut any that run past 90 seconds |
| Sunday | 11:00 to 11:30 | Tech check | Headphones, microphone, camera, output device, the meeting link, the room |
| Sunday | 11:30 to 12:00 | Logistics | Outfit, route or room, interviewer names, a printed copy of your resume and questions |
| Sunday | Afternoon | Rest | Nothing interview-related. Sleep at your usual time |
Saturday: build before you drill
The morning is building material; the mocks test whether it comes out of your mouth. Keep the two mocks short, about seven minutes and three questions each, so together they fit the free plan's 15 minutes for the day and so you have time between them to act on the feedback. Start each as an AI mock interview with the posting and your resume pasted in and the level set to the role; the interviewer reads each question aloud and scores your spoken answer out of 10 with what worked, what to improve and a model answer.
The one fix after each mock is the whole point: one, written down, carried into the next session. Six stories, two fixes and five questions is a complete Saturday; a third mock adds fatigue, not readiness.
Sunday: drill the weak spot, then stop
Sunday's single 15-minute session goes entirely to the category that scored lowest on Saturday. Narrow the mix to it, run the session, and when it ends, redo the lowest-scored question once, aloud. That is the last interview question you answer before Monday.
Then say the six stories once each, standing, no notes; any story past 90 seconds loses a line. The tech check is not optional even for an in-person interview, since you will be looking up names and the route on the same devices; our setup checklist is the thorough version if the interview is remote. After noon, stop. A candidate who slept well with five rehearsed stories beats one who studied until midnight with eight.
How the free plan covers both days
The free plan is $0 forever with no credit card: 15 minutes of live help every day in sessions of up to 15 minutes, with the AI mock interviews included. Saturday's two seven-minute mocks and Sunday's one 15-minute drill each sit inside a day's allowance, so the weekend costs nothing. If you want longer sessions, Standard is $24.99 a month with 60-minute sessions and up to 100 minutes a day, and a one-time hour pack is $9.99 for 1 hour that never expires. For a longer runway, see how often to practice.
Monday morning
Do not run a mock on Monday. Use the 15-minute warm-up instead: two spoken practice answers, the stories reread aloud, a tech check and two minutes of silence, ending five minutes before the call. If your interview is one where live help is permitted and you intend to use it, decide that over the weekend, confirm it with the recruiter in writing, and follow your employer's rules.
Where CoPilot Interview fits
CoPilot Interview is a desktop AI interview assistant with a practice half and a live half. The practice half, the AI mock interview, is every assistant block in the table above: questions built from your resume and the posting, read aloud, each spoken answer scored. The live half captions questions and drafts structured answers during real interviews, only where that is allowed. Disclosure: CoPilot Interview is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.
Frequently asked questions
Is a weekend enough time to prepare for an interview?
For most roles, yes, if the time goes to speaking rather than reading: six stories mapped to the posting, two short scored mocks on Saturday, one targeted drill on Sunday, and rest. A weekend cannot teach new material; it can make what you know come out clearly.
How many mock interviews should I do over a weekend?
Three short ones: two on Saturday, about seven minutes and three questions each, and one 15-minute drill on Sunday aimed at the weakest category. More produces fatigue and memorized phrasing. Each mock should end with one written fix carried into the next.
Should I prepare on Sunday night?
No. Finish by early afternoon, then do nothing interview-related. Sleep affects recall and composure more than any extra hour of study, and a tired voice on Monday undoes Saturday's work. Reread your six stories once in the morning and stop.
Can I do this plan on the free plan?
Yes. The free plan is $0 with no credit card, includes the AI mock interviews, and allows 15 minutes a day in sessions of up to 15 minutes. Saturday's two seven-minute mocks and Sunday's single 15-minute drill each fit inside one day's allowance.
