AI Interview Assistant for Amazon Chime: Setup and Amazon Prep

How CoPilot Interview runs beside an Amazon Chime call, what AWS ending Chime support means for your invite, and how to prepare Leadership Principle stories that survive follow-ups.

CoPilot Interview works as an AI interview assistant for Amazon Chime. Chime is one of the call apps the site names, alongside Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. The app runs in its own desktop window on Windows or macOS, listens to the audio your computer plays, shows live captions of the interviewer's question and then a structured answer in about 2 seconds. There is no plugin and nothing to install into Chime.

Before you set anything up, check one thing: AWS ended support for the Amazon Chime service on February 20, 2026. Many Amazon interviews have used Chime, and plenty of prep guides still describe Chime phone screens, so read the link in your invite rather than assuming. The setup below works the same whichever call app your interview uses, because the assistant only needs the interviewer's voice to play through your computer.

Most of this page is about the part that decides Amazon interviews: Leadership Principle answers and the follow-up questions that test them.

Is Amazon Chime still used for interviews?

AWS's update on support for Amazon Chime says that from February 20, 2026, you can no longer host Amazon Chime meetings, manage users or use its Business Calling features. AWS also says the separate Amazon Chime SDK, which developers use to build calling into their own apps, isn't affected. That's the position as of October 2026.

In practice, that means the app named in your invite is the one to prepare for. Our guide to the Amazon SDE interview process notes that remote loops have run on Zoom or Amazon Chime. Your recruiter's email is the final word.

The last row matters. Amazon's online assessment has its own rules, and our assessment guide covers the question styles so you can practice for it properly.

Setting up an AI interview assistant for Amazon Chime

The audio path is the same as for any call app. Your microphone carries your voice out, and your computer's output carries the interviewer's voice in. CoPilot Interview reads that output on your own machine, so it doesn't join the meeting or touch your Chime account.

  1. Install the day before. Download the zip from the official site (CoPilot_Interview_Setup.zip on Windows, CoPilot Interview.zip on macOS), unzip it and run it. No signup is needed to start.
  2. Connect your headset first. Plug in a wired or USB headset before you open Chime or CoPilot Interview, and set it as your computer's default output.
  3. Join with computer audio. Whether you join from the Chime app or a browser, choose computer audio, not a dial-in number. If the interviewer's voice plays on your phone, captions won't appear.
  4. Open Candidate Mode. Start it before the interviewer begins, so the first thing they say becomes a caption.
  5. Check the first caption. When the interviewer says hello, the caption should show their words, not yours. If it shows yours, the call is playing on a different device.

What an Amazon interview on a call involves

Amazon's process varies by role and level, but the published SDE prep material our process guide summarizes has a consistent shape.

The screen

Depending on the role, the first step may be an online assessment or a technical phone screen. For senior software roles, Amazon describes a 60-minute screen with a senior leader, split roughly evenly between Leadership Principle questions and coding plus system design.

The loop

The loop is a series of 55-minute interviews. Each interviewer is assigned specific competencies, and Leadership Principle questions show up in every interview, typically two or three per interviewer. Coding rounds expect working code rather than pseudocode, and a time and space complexity answer for almost every question. Our guide on how to pass the Amazon behavioral interview covers the Bar Raiser and how stories get challenged.

What that means for your plan

A 55-minute round is longer than a free session. The free plan gives you 15 minutes every day in sessions up to 15 minutes, which is right for practice. A full live round needs Standard (60 minutes per session, $14.99 a month on sale, regular $19.99), Pro (70 minutes) or a one-time pay-as-you-go hour for $5.99. See pricing for every plan.

Practicing Leadership Principle stories with Mock Interview

Because the same principles come up in every round, Amazon rewards preparation more than most companies. You need several true stories, each with a clear role for you and a result you can measure. Our Amazon Leadership Principles examples list the questions behind each principle.

Mock Interview is the quickest way to rehearse them out loud. Add your résumé and the Amazon job description, and it draws questions from both, reads each one aloud and scores your spoken answer out of 10 with what to fix and a model answer. At the end you get a report card. Repeat the weakest question in your next session until the score stops moving.

Example outline: "Tell me about a time you disagreed with your manager"

This is an example we wrote to show the structure. Replace every bracket with your own facts.

Write one outline like this for each principle you expect, then say each one aloud in Mock Interview. Reading an outline is not the same as delivering it, and the score shows the difference quickly.

Tip: Keep a one-page numbers sheet next to your stories: team size, dates, the metric each story moved and how you measured it. Amazon follow-ups ask for exact figures, and a figure you can't explain hurts more than no figure.

How live captions help with Amazon follow-ups

Amazon interviewers rarely stop at your first answer. They ask what you personally did, how you measured it, what you'd do differently and who pushed back. Each probe is short, and the trap is answering the question you expected instead of the one they asked.

That's where a real-time interview assistant earns its place. The live caption shows the exact wording of the probe, so you can check whether they asked "how did you measure it" or "how did you decide", which call for different answers. The structured answer then gives you an order to speak in. Your facts still have to come from you. Mock Interview uses your résumé to build questions, but in a live round, never repeat a detail you can't back up in the next follow-up.

Follow the rules of the employer or assessment you're in — many people use it only to practice, which works on the free plan. Amazon's online assessment, for one, must be completed on your own under Amazon's rules.

Coding rounds: the call for voice, an editor for code

In a coding interview, the call carries the conversation while the code lives in a shared editor. CoPilot Interview's coding mode gives complete code in your chosen language, the complexity and an example run, and it can read a pasted screenshot of a problem. The coding interview copilot page shows the layout.

Amazon's own advice for these rounds is a good checklist whatever you use: ask clarifying questions first, state time and space complexity for every solution, think aloud, and test your own code on edge cases. Trace one example by hand before you claim the code works. Our list of Amazon coding interview questions is a good place to practice that habit.

The night before an Amazon call

The Amazon interview help page collects the Amazon-specific resources. If you're still choosing a tool, you can compare AI interview assistants on platform support and price, or start with the free AI interview assistant and test it yourself.

On privacy: audio is streamed in short encrypted segments through our proxy to a speech-to-text model, the question text goes to the AI model you chose, and nothing is kept on our servers beyond the request. Session files stay in your own Documents folder.

FAQ

Does CoPilot Interview work with Amazon Chime?

Yes. Amazon Chime is one of the call apps the site names. CoPilot Interview listens to the audio your computer plays, so when the interviewer's voice comes through your headset from Chime, it shows live captions and a structured answer in about 2 seconds.

Is Amazon Chime still available?

AWS ended support for the Amazon Chime service on February 20, 2026, and says Chime meetings can no longer be hosted after that date. Check the link in your interview invite to see which call app your interview uses.

What if my Amazon interview is on Zoom instead of Chime?

The setup is the same. CoPilot Interview works with any call app that plays the interviewer's voice through your computer, and Zoom is on the named list too. Set Zoom's speaker to your headset and run a 2-minute test call.

Can I use it on the Amazon online assessment?

Amazon says the online assessment must be completed on your own, under the rules it sets. Use CoPilot Interview to practice coding and Leadership Principle answers beforehand, not during the assessment.

How do I practice Amazon Leadership Principle questions?

Write a short outline for each story with your role, the action you took and a result you can measure. Then add your résumé and the Amazon job description to Mock Interview, which draws questions from both and scores each spoken answer out of 10 with what to fix and a model answer.

Is the free plan enough for an Amazon loop?

For practice, yes: you get 15 minutes every day in sessions up to 15 minutes, with all four modes. Amazon loop interviews run about 55 minutes each, so live help for a full round needs Standard, Pro or a pay-as-you-go hour.
