Can You Use an AI Interview Assistant for Sales Calls, Client Meetings or Presentations?

Technically, yes: a real-time AI assistant like CoPilot Interview listens to your computer's audio output and your microphone, so it will caption and answer questions on a sales call, a client meeting or a presentation Q&A exactly as it does in an interview. Practically, it is tuned for interviews: it expects a question, returns a structured answer, and does nothing about minutes, action items or follow-up emails.

Here is where it genuinely helps outside interviews, where a meeting note-taker is the better tool, and the consent rules that apply the moment anyone else is on the call.

Why a real-time AI assistant works on any call

The assistant is a separate desktop window. It never joins the meeting and is not a participant; it reads whatever audio the computer plays and whatever your microphone picks up. That is why it works the same with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, Amazon Chime and any other app that plays audio through the computer, and it is also why it cannot tell an interview from a sales call. A question is a question.

What differs is the output: live captions and a structured answer in about 2 seconds for each detected question, with shorter, longer and redo controls. That suits questions aimed at you, not a meeting where the point is to capture what everyone else said. AI interview assistant vs meeting note-takers sets the two side by side.

Where it helps outside interviews

Where a meeting note-taker is the better tool

What you needInterview assistantMeeting note-taker
An answer to a question aimed at you, right nowYes, in about 2 secondsNo
Minutes, a summary, action itemsNoYes, that is its job
Who said what across six participantsNo; it captions whichever voice comes throughUsually yes, as a named participant
Appearing in the meetingNever; it does not joinUsually joins as a bot, visible to everyone
Rehearsing answers before a callYes, with scored mock interviewsNo

If your problem is remembering what was decided, use a note-taker. If your problem is answering well under questioning, use an interview assistant. AI note-taker vs interview assistant has more on the overlap.

Consent and recording rules in meetings

This is not legal advice, but the general shape is consistent: a transcribing assistant captures other people's words, and many jurisdictions and most company policies require that participants know a call is being transcribed or recorded. Tell people. In a client setting that is also courtesy, and prospects react badly to finding out later.

In CoPilot Interview, audio is streamed in short segments for transcription and is not stored on our servers; a text transcript is saved only in your Documents folder; the transcribed text goes to the AI model you choose. Your own company's policy on AI tools in client calls may be stricter than the law, so follow your employer's rules there as you would in an interview.

Settings that matter on a long call

The defaults were chosen for interviews. Auto-answer is on, so every detected question produces an answer, and a new question is detected after a 20-second pause. If nothing is said for 10 minutes, listening stops until you press Ctrl+Shift+L (Cmd on macOS). Ctrl+Shift+A asks for an answer on demand; Ctrl+Shift+F keeps the window from taking focus while you present.

Session limits also apply: the free plan gives 15 minutes a day in sessions of up to 15 minutes, Standard ($24.99 a month) gives 60-minute sessions and up to 100 minutes a day, and Pro ($39.99) gives 70-minute sessions with no limit on how many.

Where CoPilot Interview fits

CoPilot Interview is an AI interview assistant first: AI mock interviews for preparation, live captions and answers for interviews that allow them, Coding mode for technical screens, and Interviewer Mode for the hiring side. It will work on other calls because of how it listens, but we built it for questions aimed at you, and a note-taker will serve a working meeting better.

Disclosure: CoPilot Interview is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use an AI interview assistant on a sales call?

Technically yes, because CoPilot Interview listens to the computer's audio and answers detected questions whatever the call is. It is tuned for interviews, so it answers questions aimed at you and does not produce minutes or action items. Tell participants a tool is transcribing.

Does the assistant join my meeting as a bot?

No. It is a separate desktop window that reads the computer's audio output and your microphone. It never joins the call and is not a participant, which is different from most meeting note-takers, which join as a visible bot.

Is it legal to use a transcribing assistant in a client meeting?

This is not legal advice. Many jurisdictions and most company policies require that participants know a call is being transcribed or recorded, so tell them. Your employer's own rules on AI tools in client calls may be stricter, and you should follow them.

Can hiring managers use it on their side of an interview?

Yes, through Interviewer Mode, which generates context-aware questions, scores answers in real time and produces structured evaluation reports. Candidates should be told and should consent, scoring should be checked for bias, and retained data needs a clear policy.

What does CoPilot Interview do with meeting audio?

Audio is streamed in short segments for transcription and is not stored on our servers. A text transcript is saved only in your Documents folder, and the transcribed text is sent to the AI model you choose.
