What Interview Coder is, and why people look for alternatives

Interview Coder is a desktop app for Windows and Mac built around live coding rounds. Per its homepage, it reads the coding problem and transcribes the interviewer's audio, then produces a solution. It was built by Chungin "Roy" Lee and Neel Shanmugam, the founders who rebranded it to Cluely in April 2025; both sites still sell products separately in 2026.

As of October 2026 it has two paid plans:

People look for alternatives for reasons you can check on its own site:

The 8 best Interview Coder alternatives, reviewed

1. CoPilot Interview: best for daily coding practice across the whole loop

CoPilot Interview is a desktop app for Windows 10+ and macOS 12+ with four modes: Mock Interview, Candidate Mode (live help), Interviewer Mode for hiring managers, and a Resume Builder. It runs as its own window beside Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.

Strengths:

Limits: no lifetime licence, which is a real advantage Interview Coder has. No Linux build, and free sessions stop at 15 minutes. CoPilot Interview isn't affiliated with Microsoft Copilot or GitHub Copilot.

Follow the rules of the employer or assessment you're in — many people use it only to practice, which works on the free plan.

2. Interview Solver: best coding-focused prep platform

Interview Solver describes itself as a platform for coding and technical interview prep, with guided practice, interview resources and a desktop copilot for macOS and Windows, per its site (October 2026).

Strengths: built for technical rounds, a free tier, and pricing from $59/mo with a 3-month "Interview Cycle" plan, a fifth of Interview Coder's monthly price.

Limits: it's centered on technical rounds, and its site doesn't list every plan's price on the homepage, so check its pricing before buying. See CoPilot Interview vs Interview Solver.

3. interviewing.io: best for mock interviews with senior engineers

interviewing.io sells anonymous mock interviews with senior, staff and principal engineers, covering algorithms, system design, machine learning and behavioral rounds.

Strengths: the most realistic technical practice here, a free AI Interviewer for coding and system design, and a full refund if you're unhappy, per its FAQ (October 2026).

Limits: human mocks start at $179 each, so it's for a few targeted sessions before an onsite, not daily reps. See our interviewing.io review.

4. Aced (formerly Exponent): best for system design courses and peer mocks

Exponent renamed itself Aced in August 2026. It combines courses, a question bank, peer mock interviews, AI practice and paid coaching.

Strengths: the free Basic plan includes 5 peer mocks a month. Pro is $79/mo or $149 a year; Expert, with AI mock interviews, is $99/mo or $249 a year, per its pricing (October 2026). It's strong for system design, which Interview Coder doesn't touch.

Limits: month to month it's steep for a short search, and 1:1 coaching costs extra ($249 a session). See our Exponent (Aced) review.

5. LockedIn AI: best coding assistant with an editor extension

LockedIn AI has a coding assistant alongside its interview copilot, plus a VS Code and Cursor extension, desktop apps for Windows 10+ and macOS 13.1+, a web app, and iOS and Android apps, per its site.

Strengths: covers coding and the other rounds, a free plan with no card, and credits that never expire.

Limits: free sessions stop at 5 minutes, and unlimited is $109.98/mo month to month (first month $43.99) or $79.98/mo billed every 3 months (first payment $31.99/mo) (as of October 2026). See Interview Coder vs LockedIn AI.

6. Final Round AI: best broad paid suite

Final Round AI is a desktop app for Windows and macOS 14.4+ with coding help, practice interviews and automatic AI debriefs on its Pro plan.

Strengths: covers coding, behavioral and other rounds in one account, with a free plan for résumé materials and job-description prep.

Limits: its pricing page says there is no free trial of live sessions; Pro is $150/mo month to month or $25/mo billed annually (October 2026). See Final Round AI vs Interview Coder.

7. Parakeet AI: best for company question banks and pay-per-hour mocks

Parakeet AI sells credits that cover calls, mock interviews and a company question bank, per its pricing page (October 2026).

Strengths: one credit ($38) covers about an hour of mock interviews or unlocks one company's questions in its question bank; a 15-credit pack works out to $11.80 a credit. Your first mock interview is free.

Limits: unlimited is $149.90/mo month to month, and the free session is 10 minutes. See Interview Coder vs Parakeet AI.

8. Cluely: Interview Coder's sibling, for general meetings

Cluely comes from the same founders. It's a general meeting assistant for calls, sales and interviews, on Mac, Windows and iOS.

Strengths: a free Starter plan and Pro at $19.99/mo ($11.99/mo billed annually), per its pricing page (October 2026), far below Interview Coder.

Limits: it isn't tuned for coding rounds, and its top tier ($149.99/mo) adds one more feature on top of Pro. See Interview Coder vs Cluely.

Which rounds each Interview Coder alternative covers

A typical software engineering loop has a recruiter screen, one or more coding rounds, often system design, and a behavioral round. Interview Coder covers only the coding part.

A practice-first way to prepare for coding interviews

No tool replaces knowing the patterns. This is the order we suggest, using free tools first:

  1. Pick one problem list and finish it. Our NeetCode 150 vs Blind 75 vs LeetCode 75 comparison helps you choose.
  2. Review patterns and complexity with the coding interview cheat sheet and the Big-O complexity visualizer.
  3. Practice talking while you code. Run a Mock Interview with coding questions in your language and explain your approach out loud before writing code.
  4. Add system design and behavioral reps, using the system design cheat sheet and the same Mock Interview with a different mix.
  5. Book one or two human mocks (interviewing.io or Aced peer mocks) in the final week or two.

Online assessments and take-home tests are part of many loops. Take the assessment yourself and follow the employer's rules — use CoPilot Interview to practice beforehand.

Tip: after each practice problem, compare your solution with a model answer and write down the one thing you'd change. That log is more useful the night before an onsite than any tool.

How we chose these Interview Coder alternatives

We did not run paid hands-on tests of every product. We compared what each vendor publishes on its own site (pricing, homepage, FAQ and refund terms), checked in October 2026, and left out vendor user counts and success claims because they aren't independently audited.

FAQ

What is the best Interview Coder alternative?

For most engineers, CoPilot Interview: it covers coding, system design and behavioral rounds, has a free plan of 15 minutes every day with scored mock interviews, and costs $14.99/mo on Standard, against $299/mo for Interview Coder Monthly Pro as of October 2026. For human feedback, add a session on interviewing.io or Aced peer mocks. We make CoPilot Interview, so weigh our pick accordingly.

How much does Interview Coder cost?

As of October 2026, Monthly Pro is $299/mo with 1,000 usage credits a month and Lifetime Pro is $799 one-time. The free download needs a subscription to unlock AI features, and its refund policy says no purchase is refundable.

Is there a free alternative to Interview Coder?

Yes. CoPilot Interview gives 15 free minutes every day plus a free browser mock interview, interviewing.io has a free AI Interviewer for coding and system design, Aced has a free Basic plan with 5 peer mocks a month, and Interview Solver has a free tier (as of October 2026).

Are Interview Coder and Cluely the same company?

They share founders. Interview Coder was built by Chungin Roy Lee and Neel Shanmugam and rebranded to Cluely in April 2025, but both sites still sell separate products in 2026. Cluely is a general meeting assistant, not a coding tool.

Which alternative helps with system design as well as coding?

CoPilot Interview, interviewing.io, Aced and Interview Solver all publish system design coverage, and CoPilot Interview and interviewing.io cover behavioral rounds too. Interview Coder covers coding only.

Can I use these tools during an online coding assessment?

Take the assessment yourself and follow the employer rules. Use these tools to practice beforehand: mock interviews, model answers and complexity review build the skill the assessment measures.
