AI Interview Assistant for SDR and BDR Interviews

An AI interview assistant helps an SDR or BDR candidate most as a sparring partner for the role-plays: the cold call, the objection, the voicemail, all of which are spoken, fast and scored on delivery as much as content. It also drills the quota, activity and coachability questions asked between role-plays.

An AI interview assistant helps an SDR or BDR candidate most as a sparring partner for the role-plays: the cold call, the objection, the voicemail, all of which are spoken, fast and scored on delivery as much as content. It also drills the quota, activity and coachability questions asked between role-plays. Live help is a poor fit for a role-play, because the manager is listening to your pace and recovery, not your script. Below are the SDR interview questions we see most, with answer outlines, how each role-play is judged, the rounds to expect and a practice plan.

SDR and BDR interview questions with answer outlines

  1. Cold call me. I am the VP of operations at a logistics company. Name and company in one breath, permission for 30 seconds, one sentence of relevance to their world, one open question, ask for the meeting with two time options.
  2. We already use a competitor. Acknowledge without arguing, ask what works and what does not, name one specific gap you can address, ask for a short comparison call.
  3. Leave me a voicemail. Under 20 seconds: your name, one reason specific to them, that an email is coming, your number said once clearly.
  4. Walk me through your numbers. Quota, attainment by quarter, activity (calls, emails, connects), meetings booked, show rate, pipeline sourced in dollars.
  5. How do you research an account before reaching out? Trigger events, the role's priorities, their tech, recent news, and the one personalized line you write from it.
  6. How do you stay consistent after a week of rejection? Time blocks, a daily activity target you control, reviewing your call recordings.
  7. Tell me about feedback from a manager that changed how you work. The specific feedback, what you changed the next day, the measurable result; this is the coachability question.
  8. How do you prioritize a territory or list? Fit against the ideal customer profile, intent signals, tiers with a different cadence for each.
  9. What does your outreach sequence look like? Call, email, social and video across two to three weeks, personalization first, a clear breakup message last.
  10. Why sales, and where do you want to be in two years? An honest motivation, the account executive path, what you want to learn here first.

How each role-play is judged

Hiring managers run role-plays to hear three things: whether you talk less than the prospect after the opener, whether you recover from an objection without getting defensive, and whether you ask for the meeting. Content is a distant fourth.

Role-playWhat the manager listens forCommon failure
Cold call openerPace, permission, one relevant line, a questionA 60-second monologue about features
Objection handlingAcknowledge, question, redirect, ask againArguing with the prospect
VoicemailBrevity, one reason to call back, clear numberRunning past 30 seconds

The closing question, how do you think that went, is the coachability test in disguise; name one specific thing you would change. Our guide to quantifying results in interview answers covers presenting attainment when you missed quota.

A practice plan built on the AI mock interview

The AI mock interview builds questions from your pasted job description and resume, reads them aloud and scores each spoken answer out of 10 with what worked, what to improve and a model answer; it is included on the free plan. For the role-plays, ask a general AI chat to play a specific prospect, and record yourself.

Live help and what to verify yourself

Where the employer allows it, live help fits the hiring manager conversation, not the role-play: the app captions the question and shows a structured answer about two seconds after it ends. In a role-play, reading a prompt costs you the pace the manager is listening for, so we would not use it there even where allowed. Follow your employer's rules; in sales, how you behave when you think no one is checking is part of the evaluation.

Verify yourself: your attainment and activity figures (a manager may ask for a dashboard screenshot later), facts about the employer's product, and anything a model says about a competitor.

Frequently asked questions

What are common SDR interview questions?

A cold-call role-play, an objection such as we already use a competitor, a voicemail, your quota and activity numbers, how you research an account, how you handle rejection, feedback that changed how you work, your outreach sequence, and why sales plus where you want to be in two years.

How do I handle the cold-call role-play in an SDR interview?

Open with your name and company in one breath, ask for 30 seconds, say one sentence relevant to the prospect's world, ask one open question, then ask for the meeting with two time options. Talk less than the prospect after the opener.

What numbers should an SDR bring to an interview?

Quota and attainment by quarter, activity (calls, emails, connects), meetings booked, show rate, and pipeline sourced. If you missed quota, say so and explain what you changed; managers hire for coachability as much as attainment.

Can I use an AI interview assistant in a sales role-play?

We would not, even where allowed: the manager is listening for pace and recovery, and reading a prompt costs you both. Practice with the mock interview and a general AI chat as the prospect, then do the role-play on your own.
